PRIMARY PURPOSE: To analyze complex or technically difficult workers' compensation claims to determine benefits due; to work with high exposure claims involving litigation and rehabilitation; to ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within service expectations, industry best practices and specific client service requirements; and to identify subrogation of claims and negotiate settlements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes and processes complex or technically difficult workers' compensation claims by investigating and gathering information to determine the exposure on the claim; manages claims through well-developed action plans to an appropriate and timely resolution.

  • Negotiates settlement of claims within designated authority.

  • Calculates and assigns timely and appropriate reserves to claims; manages reserve adequacy throughout the life of the claim.

  • Calculates and pays benefits due; approves and makes timely claim payments and adjustments; and settles clams within designated authority level.

  • Prepares necessary state fillings within statutory limits.

  • Manages the litigation process; ensures timely and cost effective claims resolution.

  • Coordinates vendor referrals for additional investigation and/or litigation management.

  • Uses appropriate cost containment techniques including strategic vendor partnerships to reduce overall cost of claims for our clients.

  • Manages claim recoveries, including but not limited to: subrogation, Second Injury Fund excess recoveries and Social Security and Medicare offsets.

  • Reports claims to the excess carrier; responds to requests of directions in a professional and timely manner.

  • Communicates claim activity and processing with the claimant and the client; maintains professional client relationships.

  • Ensures claim files are properly documented and claims coding is correct.

  • Refers cases as appropriate to supervisor and management.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).

  • Travels as required.

QUALIFICATION

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Professional certification as applicable to line of business preferred.

Experience

Five (5) years of claims management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Subject matter expert of appropriate insurance principles and laws for line-of-business handled, recoveries offsets and deductions, claim and disability duration, cost containment principles including medical management practices and Social Security and Medicare application procedures as applicable to line-of-business.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

  • Analytical and interpretive skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

Strategic Comp has decades of experience insuring workers' compensation coverage for large companies using a deductible program. Now, we are complementing our workers' compensation coverage with commercial auto coverage. Our service in claims and loss control is second to none. Here's what you would be doing if hired for the Commercial Auto Liability Field Claims Specialist position. Strategic Comp is looking for an experienced commercial auto liability adjuster to handle claims arising out of auto coverage – a new and rapidly growing business segment for Strategic Comp. This role will entail investigation and resolution of all aspects of first- and third-party automobile claims for our commercial insureds. Insured fleets will include a broad range of vehicle types including semis. This role's primary emphasis will be on the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of liability and bodily injury damages issues and will include in-person contact with claimants. This adjuster also will need to be familiar with physical damage and first-party bodily injury aspects of auto claims. You will evaluate and settle claims of represented- and non-represented claimants. This role is a work-from-home position based in or around metro Atlanta, Georgia. The position requires travel to make in-person contact with claimants and perform investigative tasks. The position will be based in a home office 60% of the time, and the other 40% of the time will be for field travel including possible overnight stays. Candidates located in Georgia or adjacent parts of Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina or South Carolina will be considered. Strategic Comp approaches all claims with a sense of immediacy and takes a pro-active approach in adjusting. The right candidate will know not only the territory's commercial auto adjusting laws but enjoy putting that experience to good use. Responsibilities The Commercial Auto Liability Field Claims Specialist will have the following responsibilities:• Review and evaluate commercial auto coverage and/or liability, and secure and analyze information necessary to investigate claims.• Resolve claim files, attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions and trials as necessary.• Set reserves, determine settlement value, and negotiate settlements with claimants. • Participate in claim roundtables and, as staff grows, participate in coaching and development. The role requires proper prioritization of claims with a focus on risk-mitigation.
