Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for the investigation and resolution of moderate complexity and moderate exposure general liability and commercial automobile casualty claims, as well as a smaller percentage of first party property claims. The majority of the claims result from Renter's, Homeowners, Dwelling and Special Event liability policies. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under general direction from their manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims

  • Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions

  • Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages

  • Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel

  • Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure

  • Sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager

  • Communicates with underwriting and product managers as needed to discuss claim developments

  • Negotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly

  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information

  • Adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives

  • Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requested

  • Travel to mediations, trials and conferences as required (0-10%)

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Certification

  • Must have or be eligible to secure TX claims adjuster license

  • Successful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) preferred

Work Experience

  • Preferably 2-4 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)

S/he will process increasingly complex claims ensuring the fair, ethical and timely processing of assigned claims. Responsibilities * Ensures the accuracy and completeness of submitted claims. * Escalates claims issues/concerns to senior team members and/or management. * Obtains needed increasingly complex claim information by communicating effectively with internal/external stakeholders verbally and in written form while maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions. * Processes increasingly complex assigned claims for approval or denial in accordance with established procedures and guidelines, in a timely manner and meeting departmental quality/production standards. * Provides customer service to internal and/or external stakeholders, recognizes what needs to be done to meet customer needs and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to meet customer needs on routine work independently. * Provides routine responses and a diverse range of information to junior team members questions to support organizational capabilities. * Recognizes issues or concerns for assigned area(s) of responsibility, explains effect on the customer's service experience, and suggests process improvements. * Reviews and provides specific information to increasingly complex questions/concerns from internal/external stakeholders (e.g. internal partners, policyholders, brokers, etc.) by applying expended knowledge. * Reviews increasingly complex submitted claim information for approval of Waiver of Life premium.
