ResponsibilitiesThe Position

We are seeking a self-motivated and a service oriented Claims Director to join the team! As a member of the Arch Re Fac team, this person will play a vital role in providing an outstanding customer experience. Using their investigative and interpersonal skills, this person will work to resolve a variety of property claims in a fast paced and team-oriented environment. The Claims Director will work closely with Senior Management and play an instrumental part in training our field on lessons from losses to drive constant improvement for our underwriters. This position may require up to 10% of domestic travel, as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Setup, investigate, and resolve all property claims including issues of coverage

  • Work directly with Ceding Companies and third party vendors to secure and analyze necessary information and resolve questions and issues that arise

  • Document all claim files with progress notes and reports to record results of investigation and handling

  • Lead special claims projects and presentations including identifying and communicating lessons from losses and trends to the underwriting team

  • Organize regular communication with Senior Management and Legal Department on claim activity including weekly and monthly reports

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for efficient and effective claims resolution

  • Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, required
  • 10+ years of technical claims experience with an insurance carrier or reinsurance company

Provide superior service to all customers, whether internal or external. Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Manage a vigorous load of claims involving a broad spectrum of insureds and coverages. Analyze coverage and manage litigation by effectively interacting with insureds, the managing general agent, defense counsel and other parties as required. Draft and issue reservation of rights and denial letters, retain and monitor defense counsel, evaluate exposure and establish reserves, monitor defense costs and negotiate settlements. Represent Company in the resolution of claims and participate in legal proceedings, including mediations. Participate in underwriting decision making, including renewal risk assessment and communication with program agent. * Work with other areas of the company including underwriting, risk management, finance, accounting, actuarial, operations and technology on projects as requested. Contribute to risk management publications. Prepare claim summaries and other reports as necessary for management. Present severity claims to senior management in large loss meetings. * Meet with existing or prospective clients and brokers. Attend relevant industry conferences/meetings. * Assist in training of claims associates. * Comply with CMS reporting. * Four-year college degree is required. Juris doctorate is strongly preferred. * A minimum of 5 years' experience litigating or handling professional liability claims or related relevant experience including insurance coverage analysis. Experience in handling professional/specialty lines claims is preferred. * Knowledge of issues underlying psychiatric/medical malpractice claims and coverage issues. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Technical writing experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office products. * Ability to analyze coverage; instruct and collaborate with counsel regarding litigation strategy and claim resolution; resolve claims; and otherwise act within the scope of delegated authority.
