With one of the largest teams of liability experts in the world, Sedgwick supports and resolves property, general, auto, product and professional liability claims, and helps our clients maintain brand protection in times of crisis.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To analyze reported lower-level general liability claims to determine benefits due; and to ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices.


  • Adjusts injury claims under close supervision.

  • Supports other claims representatives, examiners and leads with larger or more complex claims as necessary.

  • Processes general liability claims by gathering information to determine liability exposure, assigns reserve values to claims, making claims payments as necessary, and settling claims up to the designated authority level.

  • Processes assigned claims and determines benefits due pursuant to the client contract; makes timely claims payments and adjustments.

  • Communicates claim action/processing with claimant, client and appropriate medical contact.

  • Ensures claim files are properly documented and claims coding is correct.

  • May process routine payments and prescriptions and status reports for lifetime medical claims and/or defined period medical claims.

  • Maintains professional client relationships.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).


Education & Licensing

High school diploma or GED required.


One (1) year of general office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Claims industry experience preferred. Licenses as required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Social Security and Medicare application procedure as applicable to line of business

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

  • Analytical and interpretive skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

Job Summary: This position will be responsible for the investigation and resolution of moderate complexity and moderate exposure general liability and commercial automobile casualty claims, as well as a smaller percentage of first party property claims. The majority of the claims result from Renter's, Homeowners, Dwelling and Special Event liability policies. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under general direction from their manager. Job Responsibilities * Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims * Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions * Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages * Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel * Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure * Sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager * Communicates with underwriting and product managers as needed to discuss claim developments * Negotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly * Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information * Adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives * Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requested * Travel to mediations, trials and conferences as required (0-10%) Education * Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience Certification * Must have or be eligible to secure TX claims adjuster license * Successful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) preferred Work Experience * Preferably 2-4 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Skill Sets * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Strong analytical and problem solving skills * Strong organization and time management skills * Ability to deliver outstanding customer service * Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word) * Ability to work in a team environment * Strong desire for continuous improvement "Why work for us?"
