Position Description

The Claims Adjuster is responsible for the investigation and handling of casualty claims including subrogation claims.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides accurate information to claimants, employees, other departmental employees, and the general public via e-mail, correspondence, telephone, or in person

  • Testifies in court proceedings; participates in mediations and hearings

  • Prepares reports and presentations as required

  • Manages and coordinates diverse tasks with strong attention to detail

  • Operates camera equipment and tablet

  • Coordinates activities on worker's compensation claims with the claim contractor

  • Assists in all areas of Human Resources and Risk Management as required

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; and

  • Current adjuster's license to handle property and casualty claims in Texas

  • A minimum of two (2) - three (3) years of verifiable paid work experience handling claims

  • Working knowledge of accident investigations and familiarity with insurance terminology and procedures

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and risk management information systems

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire) and reliable transportation for fieldwork.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field

  • Two (2) years of experience handling claims under the "Texas Tort Claim Act"

  • Two (2) years of bodily injury claims handling experience

We are looking for a highly capable Claims Adjuster to join our team and work from our New York City (NY) office preferably or from any of our US offices. This role will adjudicate owner's interest claims for our customers. The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are: * Handling a high volume of low to mid severity claims, specific to our Owner's Interest book of business. * The Owner's Interest book of business insures small to mid-level owners, and owners completing construction projects on highly restrictive coverage forms. A significant amount of this business is located in New York. * Must be able to thoroughly review coverage, and complete formal coverage positions to all parties involved in a timely matter, in New York, specially to NY Insurance law §3420. * Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly * Prepare reports for file documentation * Interview involved parties * Manage claims in litigation * Manage diary timely and complete tasks to ensure that cases move to the best financial outcome and timely resolution. * Properly set claim reserves. * Identify, assign, and coordinate the assignment and coordination of expertise resources to assist in case resolution. * Prepare reports for file documentation * Applying creative solutions which result in the best financial outcome. * Negotiate settlements * Processing mail and prioritizing workload. * Responsible for telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.). * Have an appreciation and passion for strong claim management. * This position may also require personal appearances to court, mediation(s), and accident sites. Core qualifications and requirements for this position include: * A minimum of three years' experience adjudicating claims, or practicing law with extensive familiarity with insurance coverage, negotiating settlement, and managing litigation. * Bachelor's degree from an accredit university required. * JD/Degree and/or applicable designations very strongly preferred. * Must possess or have ability to quickly obtain a license in each jurisdiction requiring a license to adjudicate first party claims. * Ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks. * Ability to articulate the financial value of your work at multiple responsibility levels inside our clients' business which may include the CEO. * Exhibit a natural curiosity. * Desire to work in a fast-paced environment. * Excellent evaluation and strategic skills required. * Strong claim negotiation skills a must. * Must possess a strong customer focus. * Must work independently and demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment. * Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business-related software. * Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, approximately 10% of the time. * The ability to read and write English fluently is required. * Must demonstrate a desire for continued professional development through continuing education and self-development opportunities.
