The products offered by the Ocean Marine Division of Great American Insurance Group help America's marine businesses stay afloat! The major product lines we underwrite within the Ocean Marine Division include Commercial Hull, Protection and Indemnity (P&I), Marine Liabilities (Primary and Excess), Boat Dealers and Marinas, Ocean Cargo, Vessel Pollution, and non-marine classes to supplement these.
The Ocean Marine Division is currently searching for a property Claim Representative/Senior Claim Representative. This position is responsible for determining coverage, damages and liability of Property and Marine claims and to settle claims within the prescribed authority level. Experience in handling hull and yacht claims is a plus. This position will also require handling of property and equipment claims.
Verifies policy coverage as applicable to the specific loss.
Identifies specific reinsurance treaties, when applicable.
Investigates claims to determine coverage liability and damages.
Obtains recorded statements and/or signed statements.
Secures police reports and evaluates investigations as needed.
Determines, verifies, evaluates and controls damages, injuries and expenses.
Leads litigation defense and directs and controls counsel. Works collaboratively with counsel, following our litigation management program.
Actively negotiates and participates in mediations.
Identifies third party contributions. Able to instruct, monitor and work with outside adjusters and vendors.
Maintains clear and proper notes documenting the claim activity, including orderly files and diary.
Communicates loss prevention and any other specific claim problems to the appropriate underwriting personnel.
Sets reserves or recommends reserves when in excess of their authority.
Travels as needed, including some overnight and air travel.
Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor's degree and 1-6+ years of commercial property claims coverage experience is needed or comparable corresponding experience.
Must be willing to learn marine claims. Must be able to read, understand and interpret coverage and contracts.
Able to lead litigation defense and direct and control counsel. Must know the litigation process. Must have strong skills in customer service, computers, verbal and written communications, time management, and organizational skills.
Must be open to travel up to 10-20% of the time, including some overnight and air travel.
Strong hands on computer knowledge.
