Position Title: Clackamas County Chapter Director

Location: Portland, Oregon

Department: Clackamas County Chapter

Reports to: Deputy Director

Position Status: Full Time, Ongoing, Hybrid (80% Remote, 20% In-Person)

Position Compensation

$65,000-$80,000 per year (depending on experience) with generous and progressive benefits, including medical and dental care, 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off; technology reimbursement; 4 hours personal time off/week, $300 annual FSA contribution, 2.5% 401K contribution after 6 months.

Position Description

Unite Oregon seeks a Clackamas County Director to implement and manage organizing programs in Clackamas County and build power for BIPOC/Immigrant/Refugee communities. The Clackamas County Director will be responsible for all Clackamas County Chapter's basic operations, including staff management and support, program and campaign oversight, fundraising, strategic planning, and administration. The Clackamas County Chapter Director reports to the Unite Oregon Deputy Director and Organizing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizing and Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain membership base in Clackamas County Chapter

  • Develop and implement 2-4 local issue campaigns and support statewide campaigns based on the strategic plan.

  • Recruit volunteers, pay due members, and maintain regular volunteer and leadership development opportunities (e.g., regular phone banks, field activities, issue committees, etc.).

  • Coordinate and facilitate chapter Leadership Council meetings every month.

  • Maintain regular communication with staff, volunteers, chapter leadership council, and members.

Fundraising and Grant Management

  • Grant writing.

  • Grant reporting.

  • Work planning.

  • Manage relationships with Pillar, admin, and policy teams.

  • Grant Index.

  • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders.

Financial Management:

  • Manage chapter program budgets

  • Meeting with the finance team

  • Time and effort reporting of chapter staff time allocations

Broker Relationships with Coalition Partners and Decision-Makers:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local, statewide, and national partners to support campaigns and shift the balance of power among local decision-makers

  • Participate in coalitions that align with the strategic plan and organizational mission and vision

  • Build and maintain relationships with elected leaders and other decision-makers

Onboarding of Staff, Interns, and Volunteers:

  • Recruit, interview, train, support, and oversee all Clackamas County staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Support Leadership Development Programs.

  • Recruit participants, process applications for each new cohort, and arrange admissions.

  • Assure that all logistics are complete.

  • Work with organizers to plan and implement the curriculum.

  • Assure all facilitators and interpreters get paid and turn in the necessary paperwork.

  • Participate in facilitation and support of Leadership Development Programs and participant follow-up.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the hiring, training, and managing of all Clackamas chapter staff.

  • Oversee and manage grant budgets.

  • Organize and oversee the work and schedules of chapter staff.

  • Conduct performance evaluations of all chapter staff in a timely and constructive manner.

  • Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed and follow the organization's policy.

  • Conduct weekly or bi-weekly staff check-ins and program meetings.

  • Work with the finance team to oversee Invoice and Billing.

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while maintaining solid communication with and accountability to organizational leadership and community.

  • Social justice work experience with diverse communities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication.

  • Strong budget management.

  • Interpersonal management and communication.

  • At least two years of experience in grassroots community organizing or campaigns.

  • Bilingual and bicultural: especially (but not limited to) Arabic, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, and/or Vietnamese preferred but not required.

  • Lives in Clackamas County and/or has strong regional ties and history.

  • Ability to travel to meetings and events across the County, Portland, and Salem.

  • Availability to work during evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.

  • Must be able to move 15 pounds at times.
