Position #17027: Para/Bilingual Preferred/ELL/ESL

Hours: 24-30 hours per week
Dyring hybrid learning, this position is 24 hours per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; must be available to work wednesdays as needed, up to 30 hours per week. When school resumes to in-person learning or returns to distance learning, this position will be 30 hours per week, with Wednesday being a full work day.
The paraeducator in this position will work directly with students in the classroom setting with the goal of improving student reading, writing and math skills. This paraeducator will be responsible for carrying through prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision of certificated staff. Other duties include adapting and making materials appropriate to instructional needs, recess supervision, maintaining accurate records, and performing other paraeducator duties as assigned by the supervisor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must pass a basic skills test.
Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).
Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.

Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.
Bilingual English/Spanish oral skills. High level of literacy in both written and oral Spanish.
Recent experience working with student of diverse ethnic background
Able to relate effectively with children in a bilingual/bicultural setting
Proficient in providing supplemental reading instruction
Knowledge of second language acquisition, effective ESL strategies and methods.
Able to follow directions from supervising teach and carry out prescribed instructional management program.
Able to model appropriate behaviors and consistent intervention procedures with students.
Able and willing to work in a team setting.
Able to use office equipment, including keyboarding and data processing. Able to utilize computer and basic functions.

The paraeducator in this position will:
Assist with instruction as directed by certificated staff using developmentally appropriate activities.
