Rocklin Unified School District OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, within a framework of standard policies and procedures, the Occupational Therapist provides services to identified special education students to address the functional needs of a child related to adaptive development, adaptive behavior and play, and sensory, motor, and postural development.

These services are designed to improve the child¡¦s functional ability to perform tasks in school and include: 1) identification, assessment,and intervention; 2) adaptation of the environment and selection, design, and fabrication of assistive and orthotic devices to facilitate development and promote the acquisition of functional skills; and 3) prevention or minimization of the impact of initial or future impairment, delay in development, or loss of functional ability. SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education and Special Programs TYPICAL DUTIES: ƒ³ Responds to requests for service and screens individuals to determine need for referral and intervention. ƒ³ Gathers and interprets data to evaluate student needs as a basis for treatment planning. ƒ³ Interprets evaluation findings to parents, the IEP team, and instructional teams. ƒ³ Develops intervention plans including measurable goals and objectives with strategies for meeting them. ƒ³ Coordinates intervention plan with parents and other members of the instructional team. ƒ³ Implements plan directly or through training and supervision of parents, instructional personnel and/or certified occupational therapy assistant. ƒ³ Monitors student response to intervention and modifies strategies as indicated to attain goals. ƒ³ Identify, evaluate and/or design adaptive equipment to assist students in self care and academic activities. ƒ³ Provides training, direction and supervision for ancillary staff as assigned. ƒ³ Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of students in their natural environments. ƒ³ Recommends termination of service when benefit has been achieved. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST - page 2 ƒ³ Documents evaluation results, treatment and follow-up, submitting these and other required reports in a timely fashion. ƒ³ Collaborates with peers in developing recommendations for protocol and procedures. ƒ³ Assists in developing transition plans for students moving to other environments. ƒ³ Works cooperatively with personnel from the district and/or agencies providing services to the student or family. ƒ³ Participates in professional growth activities in special education and in pediatric occupational therapy. ƒ³ Adheres to policies and procedures of Rocklin Unified School District and Placer Nevada/SELPA.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: A Bachelor¡¦s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in occupational therapy. Two years experience in occupational therapy with a primary focus on pediatric clients.

Possession of a valid certificate of registration issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Possession of a vaild Californa driver¡¦s license. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of child growth and development. Knowledge of common disabling conditions of children. Knowledge of theory and practice of occupational therapy as applied to infants, children and youth.

Knowledge of strategies and methodologies in educational settings. Knowledge of special education law relative to occupational therapy services. Skills and ability to administer appropriate assessment and interpret history and assessment data.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ¡V page 3 Skills and ability to design and implement appropriate intervention strategies. Skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Skills and ability to work effectively with parents, community and education colleagues.

Skills and ability to function as a positive, contributing member of an educational team. Skills and ability to develop a schedule and manage time effectively. Access to reliable transportation to and between assigned school sites during the school day.

DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medical Category III 1. Positions in this category require ability associated with prolonged periods of heavy physical labor. 2.

Position regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials. 3. Great physical demand for strength and endurance. 4. Requires heavy physical effort such as lifting over 50 pounds on continuous basis. 5.

Physical functions involve heavy physical exertion. 6. Lifting over 50 pounds or carrying any object over 25 pounds. Adopted: May 17, 2000
