Rocklin Unified School District Last Revised: 01/98 MAINTENANCE WORKER II BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB CLASSIFICATION To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled trades work in the maintenance and repair of District buildings, grounds, and equipment; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Employees in this classification receive general supervision within an established framework of standard policies and procedures.

Employees in this classification perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance at District facilities. This is the fully experienced working level in the Maintenance Worker class series. Employees are expected to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair with general guidance and supervision.

REPORTS TO Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Maintenance, Custodial, and Grounds. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES ( The following information is descriptive and is not restrictive as to duties required) • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of District buildings, grounds, and equipment. • Performs carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, partitions, forms, cabinets, floors, roofs, doors, windows, screens, wood fixtures and furniture. • Prepares wood and metal surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, sandblasting, washing, dusting, and filing. • Performs repairs to electrical wiring, switches, outlets, fixtures and motors. • Performs oiling, adjusting, cleaning, and monitoring of a variety of motorized and mechanical equipment. • Mixes, pours, and finishes concrete. • Repairs asphalt parking lots and schools yards. MAINTENANCE WORKER II - 2 EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES (continued) • Makes repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment including pipes, washers and gaskets, faucets, floats, and valves. • Performs maintenance and repairs to HVAC units, including cleaning, adjustments, equipment installations, changing filters, and checking pilot lights, etc. • May be assigned to monitor computerized Energy Maintenance Systems and take appropriate actions based on data received. • Replaces door hinges, locks, and thresholds. • Installs, repairs, and/or maintains electrical receptacles, switches, controls and lighting systems. • Installs and repairs locking mechanisms. • Performs routine maintenance of the High School Swimming Pool in the balancing of water chemical levels, operation of pumps, and repair of heaters and generators. • Operates a variety of hand and power tools including saws, portable welders, electric drills, pipe threader, and joiners.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Frequently stand and walk for extended periods; stoop, kneel, and crouch to pick up or move objects, office equipment, and furniture; ability to perform heavy physical labor for sustained periods of time; physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communications; use hand and power tools, including saws, electric drills, pipe threaders, joiners, welders and jack hammers. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a variety of District facilities both inside and outside in various types of weather; exposure to controlled and hazardous substances, pesticides, and other chemicals; continuous contact with staff and the public. MAINTENANCE WORKER II - 3 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of : • Methods, practices, and materials used in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating/air conditioning and painting repairs. • Applicable provisions of building, electrical, and plumbing codes. • Occupational hazards and safe work practices of the building maintenance trades. • Safe use and operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in repair and maintenance work.

Ability to: • Performs a wide range of semi-skilled and skilled building trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC work. • Recognize and locate conditions which require maintenance and repair work. • Use and safely and skillfully operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in building/equipment maintenance. • Perform arithmetic calculations at the level necessary for satisfactory job performance. • Read blueprints, plans, construction drawings, and "as-built" sketches. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. • Effective communicate both orally and in writing. Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: One year of work experience in one of the building trades. Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License. Ability to obtain a Certificate for HVAC Refrigerant.
