Friday 7:00 a.m.
4:00 p.m. However, hours may shift to support construction work between March and October.
Position Overview: This central engineering position provides Civil and Geotechnical engineering support to Evergy's power generation facilities. Works closely with Plant Management, Plant Operations, Environmental, Real Estate, Engineering, and other Generation work groups, assisting with a wide variety of technical issues. Engineering duties include lifecycle planning, inspections, evaluations, assessments, specifications, calculations, numerical analysis, and modelling. Duties are primarily related to landfills, impoundments, material handling, and other large civil infrastructure associated with power generation facilities.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be primarily assigned to support large civil construction projects at La Cynge Generating Station in the near term; focusing on compliant, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective disposal of coal ash. This position may also support other existing facilities and new projects on an as needed basis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage design, procurement, and construction activities for civil-related projects.
Review specifications, drawings, and other contract documents for compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
Provide budget development and project updates for capital projects.
Support both operations and construction personnel as needed to resolve problems as they arise (construction issues, erosion maintenance, modifications, drawing errors, property rights, etc).
Evaluate Hydrology and hydraulic designs.
Analyze geotechnical reports and provide engineering designs for related projects.
Review designs and shop drawings prepared by others.
Complete other related activities as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with interest or experience in the design and construction of power generation landfills, impoundments, dams, roads, stormwater management, and civil infrastructure. The applicant must be willing to work long hour days during construction season.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
The successful candidate must possess high initiative and strong interpersonal skills, quantitative analysis, and exhibit good computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD. Strong knowledge of geology, soils mechanics, groundwater systems, EPA, KDHE, and MDNR, as well as related industry codes and standards is preferred.
Licenses or Certificates Required:
Must have valid driver's license and legal document to work in the US.
Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
EIT or PE in Kansas or Missouri or the ability to obtain through comity is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job. Requires extensive on-site plant work with some office work. Requires the ability to work outdoors and in a rough surface construction environment including, but not limited to, exposure to ambient temperature extremes, dusty environments, walking long distances across steep terrain.
