Overview

Sundt Construction Field Superintendents manages day-to-day construction activities, including supervision of craft employees and subcontractors. They also schedule field activities in coordination with the project schedule.

In addition, they are responsible for safety, production goals, quality control, and cost control. Also, they may supervise one or more craft groups and/or scopes of work.

ResponsibilitiesOn self-perform projects this position may acquire, develops and manages craft field team, including: establishing and communicating performance expectations, providing positive and constructive feedback, determining training and development needs, and conducting on-the-job training to ensure relentless execution of the project. May conduct Individual Development Reviews.Enforces the project management plan (PMP) to ensure the activities in the field are consistent with the plans policies and procedures.Prepares and maintains a detailed schedule for specific areas of responsibility.

Ensures scheduling, sequencing of activities and all changes are incorporated, developed, controlled, managed and communicated daily to the project team and actions are taken to ensure timely execution.Uses available reports to manage project scope and ensure the appropriate steps are taken to build the project successfully in the field. Understands and may participate in the development of the Monthly Progress Report.Ensures project control activities and costs are managed daily and that appropriate actions are taken to ensure consistent deliverables and a successful project execution. Demonstrates business acumen within area of responsibility.

Has an understanding of the change management process.Assists with or manages the implementation of LEAN planning.Participates in business development and preconstruction activities as directed.Assists with or conducts subcontractor meetings.Assists in or conducts review of shop drawings and design conflicts along with RFI review and implementation and manages Quality Control and Safety responsibilities as well as subcontractor coordination and oversight. Ensures the quality management plan is followed and verifies the quality of work being installed meets and/or exceeds Sundt' s expectations.Emphasizes a culture of safety throughout the project and ensures the safety plan is executed relentlessly. (This should be the first Key Responsibility)Conducts risk management analysis on a daily basis working with project leaders to ensure timely mitigation and documentation.Reviews the following for proper preparation and coding: Time Sheets, Quantity reporting, and daily costs.

Completes all daily reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner, consistent with the Sundt Management System (SMS).Oversees, directs, and coordinates manpower, equipment, material, and subcontract activities in accordance with the project schedule. Ensures the material management plan is followed as well as any change control processes required to administer contracts or purchase orders.Assists in or manages the selection of equipment, construction methods, and sequencing of operations.Demonstrates competency in understanding the environmental control processes for the project and takes corrective action when necessary.Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum of two years supervisory experience in similar construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures required.Understanding of construction scheduling and cost control and the ability to control and supervise employees and subcontractors is essential.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis

Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis

Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures

May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis

May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis

Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day

May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors

Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. May assist with the supervision and/or training of Field Engineers.This position includes three 'steps' (I, II, and Senior), which provide for a progression of skill and experience. Step I is the entry level for individuals with a minimum of experience in this position. Step II is used for employees with 3 years of experience in this position, or with experience on larger and more complex projects. The 'Senior' step is used for employees with more than 6 years of experience and/or experience on significantly larger or more complex projects. Key Responsibilities * Develops a procurement schedule and integrates it with the project CPM schedule. Procures necessary material and equipment. Coordinates submittals with other trades. Reviews all submittals for compliance with the contract documents. * May participate in concrete form design and related equipment selection and will participates in takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required. * Develops an understanding of the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase order agreements, and allowance items as well as contract drawings and specifications. Administers elements of the processes involved in budgeting and controlling costs so that the project can be completed within the approved budget. Demonstrates business acumen within area of responsibility. * Maintains As‐built contract documents. Compiles close‐out requirements, including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other job‐specific items required by the specifications. * Plans, acquires, develops and supervises members of the project team to ensure relentless execution of the project. * Prepares and reviews change orders, including time extensions, with the appropriate personnel before submittal to the owner. Maintains the change order log and, upon receipt of executed change orders, distributes documents as required to company and subcontractor field personnel. Prepares cost control budget adjustments and executes in a timely manner. * Prevents claims, identify potential claims, quantify, mitigate/resolve the effects of those that do occur on a timely basis. * Demonstrates an understanding of the components of the project management plan (PMP) including the project scope management plan, procurement plan, environmental plan, time management plan, financial plan, quality management and safety plans and risk management plan to ensure successful project execution. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the change management process. * Prepares and maintains quantity reporting mechanisms and coordinates agendas and prepares minutes for all meetings as well as maintaining various project logs. Minimum Job Requirements * Four‐year construction‐ related degree or equivalent technical training and related experience, plus a minimum of three to four years of similar construction engineering experience. * An advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus in‐depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units, is required. * Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.
