About The Position

The engineer performs civil and structural design in support of projects, engineering studies, engineering design calculations, and project management activities for the maintenance and renovation of existing, or design and construction of new transmission lines, structures, structure foundations; and other facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop engineering solutions, cost and schedule estimates, and preliminary designs associated with initial development and budgeting of projects.

  • Develop project scoping documents, basis of design documents, and project control documentation for project within and outside of Ameren's service territory.

  • Perform detailed civil, structural, and foundation design. Work cooperatively with the Drafting Group to complete drawings.

  • Prepare specifications for materials and construction contracts, finalize the development cost and schedule estimates, and assist or lead in the planning and coordination of projects as required.

  • Effectively utilize project management tools and software to manage costs, maintain schedules, track project progress, and manage the civil/structural aspects of large transmission line projects.

  • Present projects at public information workshops and to government and regulatory bodies. Facilitate acquiring permits to perform construction activities.

  • Interact with Transmission Performance Management/Engineering groups, vendors, contractors, architect/engineering firms, and internal customers


Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree (i.e. Architectural Engineering), with a structural emphasis, from an accredited college or university is required. Two or more years of experience in civil/structural/foundation engineering preferred. Consideration will be given to new graduates. Applicant must have taken and passed (or awaiting results from) the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam. Candidate must be willing to pursue and ultimately obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License in Missouri and/or Illinois. Experience in Transmission line design and with PLS Cad software is a strong plus factor. Familiarity with ACI and AISC is strongly preferred; ASCE and IBC are preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Good analytical, written and verbal communication, and human relations skills. The ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to handle multiple projects with varying completion dates.
