We are seeking a Civil Group Lead to make a significant contribution to WSP USA's strategic plan to increase our project management and business development capability. The Senior Supervising Engineer will manage the Civil Engineering staff (including the roadway and drainage disciplines) in the Herndon, VA office as well as multiple multi discipline complex projects for both public and private sector clients. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Area Manager, coordination with other local and regional leaders and reporting to the Regional Civil Engineering Manager. Responsibilities of this senior staff position also include project management, leading pursuits, maintaining client relationships, staffing projects, design and QA/QC.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for a civil staff of approximately 20 people

  • Create a professional environment of innovation, opportunity, development and continuous improvement that supports office objectives

  • Work with the Area Manager to develop strategic initiatives and business plans for the area that align with the overall goals of the region

  • Successfully support office and area business objectives by winning and managing complex and major road/highway projects

  • Recruit, retain and develop top industry talent

  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement through innovation, creative thinking and improved results

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with all employees, clients and other stakeholders

  • Ensure consistency in project quality, budgetary constraints and expectations and that appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms are developed and administered

  • Work in performance with other discipline leads to enhance the organization's profile across the area

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Virginia or ability to obtain within six months

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience

  • Project and staff management experience on large civil transportation projects

  • Ability to work in this country immediately

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a Project Manager on Alternative Delivery projects
