Carollo Engineers is an environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking an experienced Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our team in Walnut Creek, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing engineering work in various engineering fields (water and wastewater treatment infrastructure to include pipelines and pump stations, engineering services, construction management)

  • Work on engineering designs, prepare reports, develop plans, prepare specifications, and cost estimates for various water and wastewater projects, permitting and alternative analysis

  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing

  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables

  • Data entry and analysis, participate in field activities such as site investigations, and pilot testing

Required Skills

  • Application of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniques

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with clients and manage project teams

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering

  • 5 to 10 years of wastewater design experience in the field of environmental consulting engineering with an emphasis in hydraulics, physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes and treatment plant design

  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training

Preferred Experience

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering

Working under the direction of project managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on dynamic and innovative compliance assurance projects, particularly Spill Prevention and Storm Water. You may also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other projects, covering the full spectrum of ERM's services. This is a great opportunity to work with ERM's technical experts to work aid our clients with their regulatory compliance needs as well as implement the latest engineering and remediation technologies. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conduct site visits/inspections at client facilities. Prepare spill prevention plans (SPCC) and storm water plans (SWPPP) for a variety of client industrial facilities. * Prepare SWPPPs, including PRDs (risk type determinations, site maps, BMP selection) for construction projects (linear and traditional). * Perform field inspections/audits of construction projects; inspect and make recommendations for the implementations of BMPs. * Compile and evaluate data and assist in report preparation. * Prepare environmental compliance plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater. * Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations. * Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments. * Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during project meetings and field activities. Required Qualifications: * BS in civil, environmental, chemical, mechanical engineering or related degree. * Minimum of four years of directly related experience. * Valid driver's license and a good driving record. Preferred Qualifications: * MS in chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering or related degree. * Professional Engineering License in one of the above fields, preferably civil, or ability to acquire within 1 year. * Experience in various industrial facility settings. * Familiarity with California storm water General Permits for MS4, Construction, and Industrial activities. * QSD/P, QISP certifications a plus. * Familiarity with industry standards such as Steel Tank Institute SP-001 and American Petroleum Institute 653 inspection standards. * Environmental field work experience and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus. * Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols. * Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus. * Willingness/interest in field assignments. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills. * Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision. * Local candidates preferred.
