You will serve as a Civil Engineering Technician within the Public Works Department Seal Beach, Detachment Corona of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. The purpose of this position is to prepare cost estimates and job plans in sufficient detail to show specific equipment, material and personnel requirements for maintenance, repair, alteration, or renovation of facilities and/or equipment.

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the public or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Providing technical support in engineering or construction projects for maintenance, repair and/or construction of facilities, systems and equipment; 2) Assisting with conducting analysis and assessments of facilities, sites and environmental conditions; 3) Assisting in designing, planning, and cost estimating for the trades and crafts involved in execution of facilities services; 4) Using material specifications, technical bulletins, material orders, to assist in determining materials for use in construction projects; 5) Communicating effectively with customers and management.
For applicants who are current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service employees, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the public or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Preparing preliminary (fundable) cost estimates, project evaluations, field studies/reports, and concept drawing/sketches. 2) Researching and preparing informal contracts and related specifications. 3) Recommending various systems, material and most economical/feasible construction methods for job completion. 4) Determining cost of material, labor hours, furnishes material lists, and provides sketches and/or detailed drawing (which may be accomplished using AutoCAD or similar computer programs) to appropriate work centers. 5) Reviewing proposals for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness.
