Our WSDOT client is delivering several hundred million dollar transportation projects that have regional and/or statewide significance. Jacobs staff are co-located with our client at the South Central Region Headquarters office. Co-location provides our staff with many training opportunities and a seamless integration into a blended team of consultant and state employees working together to deliver these high-profile projects.
Project work includes production of contract plans and specifications, performing design calculations, and preparing cost estimates. This position will directly support the WSDOT Project Engineer and Assistant Project Engineer in delivery of Connecting Washington projects in Central and Eastern Washington.

The Civil Engineering Supervisor should have a well-rounded background in transportation-related civil engineering disciplines, and have the ability to work in a team environment with our WSDOT client to support our rapidly growing Central and Eastern Washington markets.
This position will be co-located with WSDOT and will directly supervise co-located Transportation/Civil Engineers on all aspects of capital improvement project delivery. Under general direction from the Project Manager, the Civil Engineering Supervisor manages, supervises and coordinates civil engineering activities that are necessary to support various capital improvement and preservation projects for WSDOT South Central Region (SCR). Our ideal candidate will be responsible for the oversight, development, and implementation of civil engineering for state transportation-related projects that range from multi-million dollar highway and interstate projects to preservation projects. Our Civil Engineering Supervisors manage the day-to-day tasks assigned to junior to mid-level WSDOT and Jacobs engineers to ensure assigned projects and tasks are delivered on time and with high-quality. Additional responsibilities include: coordination of assigned activities with WSDOT disciplines (bridge, geotech, utilities, environmental, traffic, landscape/roadside restoration, maintenance, and materials). Jacobs seeks a leader that can exercises good judgment independently; evaluate and deliver projects within scope, schedule, budget; has a history of delivering interesting and challenging projects; has the ability to adapt to new situations; and enjoys challenging projects with an energetic, eager, and diverse workforce.
Currently, Jacobs will be hiring at least two positions (2) positions to support workload.
Roadway Design Supervisor for State transportation projects including the design and review of InRoads modeling, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
Conceptualizes the initial civil design approach for major phases of large transportation (highway/roadway) related projects, exercises past experience in final design (PS&E) delivery.
Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with stakeholders such as City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies.
Reviews and assists in the preparation of plans, schedules, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
Plan, organize and direct the daily work of assigned staff under the guidance of the Project Manager; assigns work activities and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback on civil engineering issues; reviews and evaluates the work of civil engineer team members and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals to mentor and accomplish a common team goal.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate.
Ensures processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state, local and federal laws.
Performs other duties as assigned by the WSDOT Project Engineer.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required, Washington PE registration preferred or ability to obtain within 3 months.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive roadway design experience is required including performing/leading design of highways, local arterial streets, intersections, ADA pedestrian facilities design, channelization, signing, traffic control, storm drainage design, utility, and other transportation-related designs.
Working knowledge with local-city, AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA guidelines and WSDOT design standards as required.
At least 4 years of experience in Microstation/InRoads is recommended and experience using AutoCAD/Civil3D is a plus.
Technical ability to lead the roadway design and create design (PS&E) submittal packages.
Ability to coordinate all phases of a project, including preparing, reviewing, interpreting, analyzing, and modifying complex engineering plans, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and engineering reports for conformance to professional standards and approved budgets is required.
Client experience/focus on local and state Roadways/Highways required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to concisely and accurately convey detailed technical information to others.
Familiar with computer software programs to complete assigned work and prepare reports such as, MS Office 2010 (Word, Excel, Project), ProjectWise, and other engineering programs is required.
