Position: 2020 Civil Engineering Summer Internship

Location: Libertyville, IL

Salary: $15.00/hour

Job Summary:

Becoming a Civil Engineering Intern with the Lake County Public Works Department will offer you hands-on experience performing work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity. This candidate will spend time in the field and office under the guidance of Public Works staff.

Assignments will include field construction observation, engineering duties, and collection of GPS location/elevation data. Engineering-focused work includes sanitary sewer force main desktop analysis, lift station basin delineation, assessment of building uses, and reviewing sanitary sewer televising videos to recommend repairs and rehabilitation.

You can expect to spend a certain portion of your time performing miscellaneous administrative tasks, such as scanning documents. Your day will consist of working directly with higher level technicians or professional engineers.

To be successful in this position, candidates must possess a high level of attention to detail to record data accurately. Successful candidates must also be highly motivated and able to work alone unsupervised for long periods of time.

The candidates will possess the ability to work both inside and outside in variable conditions and be willing to engage in limited to moderately strenuous physical activity. Microsoft Office software will be used to analyze the data and summarize findings into reports. You can expect to spend up to 75% of your time in the field in all weather conditions. The candidate must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

The intern will work approximately 40 hours per week for up to 15 weeks. The desired start date is between May 1 and May 15.

If so, this position could very well be for you: Position: Electrical Automation Technician Location: Libertyville, IL Salary: $34.79 - $38.26 Job Summary: Becoming an Electrical Automation Technician would allow you to be involved with electrical control systems and equipment within local government, ranging from the design and layout of control cabinets to SCADA equipment. Your day will consist of designing, building, installing and repairing electrical control systems and equipment such as controls for radio communication and SCADA equipment, design and upgrade sites with processors and variable frequency drives, troubleshoot and correct problems relating to all electrical equipment, plan or modify and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on existing or new electrical systems. This position works Monday through Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm and must be available for occasional overtime duty, weekend duty and 24-hour call on a rotating basis. In order to be successful in this role you should have an associate's degree or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education in electrical engineering and five years of experience in working with controls that include cabinet design, fabrication and troubleshooting related to the water and wastewater field. Individuals should have a working knowledge of the standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade and the elementary electrical theory and use of testing equipment. Applicants should have completed 8,000 hours of work for designation as a journeyman electrician and a valid drivers license to operator a County provided vehicle.
