Our products include advanced class gas turbines, hydrogen gas turbines, lithium ion and flow battery technologies, digital solutions, and renewable energy project development. The Civil Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of engineers and designers developing civil and structural designs that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements for Mitsubishi Power projects in Americas. The role primarily focuses on Gas Turbine auxiliary equipment related to large frame industrial gas turbines in simple cycle and/or combined cycle operation with the Steam Turbines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Set goals for the team members, conduct one-on-one follow up meetings to track progress, and develop Individual Performance as per Leadership / HR programs, identify the skills and develop training programs to enhance the skills of the team.
Establish processes and procedures for the team to ensure proper forecast, staffing, and effective/optimized use of resources while providing high quality design packages.
Maintaining Lessons learned, ECN process (Engineering Change Notices), and Task Management Systems (TMS) related to Civil Team on continuous basis.
Effectively develop division of responsibilities (DOR) between Civil Team and other engineering teams, including international engineering partners, to transfer the applicable scope of work to the team in an accurate and effective methodology.
Leads the team through the planning, setup and monitoring of inter-discipline workflows and coordination of design activities with other engineering disciplines, specially with packaged equipment Team.
Review, comment, and approve work prepared by the team on project documents and drawings to meet contractual obligations.
Conducts regular meetings with international engineering partners to ensure successful design implementation.
Monitors schedules, budgets, and estimates through completion to ensure the assigned scope finishes on time and within budget. Leads periodic reviews of civil and structural engineering execution schedule, expediting of engineering teams, escalation of needs and reporting of project technical delivery status.
Provide regular status updates to management
Collaborates with all stakeholders, such as but not limited to, Supply Chain Management, Quality Team, Construction Team, and other Engineering Teams in prioritizing and resolving any issues related to MPWA sourced scope for Gas Turbine and Combined Cycle Projects.
Technical support to Application Engineering Teams, Commercial Operations Teams, and Estimation teams in completing the estimation for the Civil and Structure scope of work.
A good understanding of lead times for designing, manufacturing/assembling, and installing/commissioning of Gas turbine and HRSG related civil and structural scope.
Support Simplification and standardization of product designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction without compromising product quality and functionality.
Strong Familiarity with OSHA, AISC, ACI, IBC and ASCE 7 design codes, industry standards and best practices.
Familiarity with STAAD (Structural design tool)
Perform other such duties as may be required.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

Familiarity with GT Strudl and TEKLA.
Familiarity with SmartPlant 3D and concepts fundamental to creation of integrated design in a 3D environment and extraction of technical detail.
Familiarity with Canadian, Mexican, Brazilian, Peruvian, and other south American Safety, structural, and building codes.
Familiarity with Foundation design for large rotating equipment.
Dynamic analysis
Foundation settlements and pile design/calculation
Power Plant design experience
Professional Engineering License

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpret and design per code requirements with the ability to satisfy the requirements from the authority having jurisdiction. Will need to be able to investigate, understand, and interpret, and apply applicable codes and standards.
Ensure effective implementation of smart-tool standards, policies, and procedures.
Always maintain the highest level of honesty and integrity.
Travel - up to 20%. May include occasional overseas travel as needed by the business.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil Engineering.

Minimum Ten (10) years of technical experience in industrial facility. Minimum four (4) years of management experience, non-managerial roles with clearly demonstrated leadership responsibilities can also be counted.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and public. Speaking Spanish and/or Japanese is a plus.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, PDF editor, etc.
