Description
As a Civil/Municipal Intern, you will work closely with our municipal team to support various projects related to municipal/civil engineering and construction inspection. This position offers hands-on experience in drafting design plans, checking calculations and cost estimates, preparing design packages for bidding and award, assisting with surveys, and construction inspection on municipal projects. You will have the opportunity to gain practical insight into the civil and municipal engineering disciplines and contribute to the execution of diverse projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Preparation: Support engineers and designers in preparing site plans, grading plans, utility plans, erosion control plans, and other design documents using CAD software for municipal roadway, sewer or water main improvement projects.
- Bid Package/Bid Award Assistance: Assist and support in preparing design packages for bidding and awarding. This includes verifying quantities, preparing cost estimates, writing specifications and assembling contract books.
- Survey Assistant: Assist in researching record information, collecting field work on various projects, assessing existing site conditions, and processing data to set up a base drawing.
- Construction Inspector: Ensuring contractor compliance with plans and specifications, tracking quantities and documenting daily progress of construction on various municipal projects. Communicating with design engineer, municipality and contractor when project questions arise or milestones reached.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D or other computer aided drafting software, and MS Office programs or similar software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with team members and clients.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Candidate must be willing to work outdoors.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in site development, civil engineering, or related field is preferred but not required.
