Job Description
This position will work with a variety of teams and Divisions within the Department of Utilities, including engineering, operations, capital construction, and asset management to assist in the completion of professional work related to water and wastewater technical services. Work is performed under general supervision of the Engineering Manager and Civil Engineers within the Department of Utilities.
Examples of Duties
Assists in the completion of professional work related to water and wastewater modeling and related technical services to support Stafford County Utilities planning, development, and capital improvement initiatives.
Research and verify data pertaining to maps and drawings. Interpret inspectors' notes, field checks, surveys, and existing records
Prepare GIS maps
Update and maintain data files and records via computer
Perform elementary drafting in the preparation and revision of architectural, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering sketches, charts, diagrams, graphs, layouts, maps, detail drawings, plans, profiles, sections, and records
Conduct field investigations and data sampling
Assist in the preparation of plans and designs
Assist in preparing preliminary cost estimates and project schedules
Participate with project plans and tracking, including scope, schedule, risks and costs
Discover and make suggestions for innovative ideas
Performs related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of principles and practices of relevant work in engineering; some knowledge of design, construction, maintenance and management of multiple complex utility projects; some knowledge of site evaluation, appraisal and acquisition procedures; ability to prepare technical reports, plans and specifications; possess a detailed understanding of the requirements for electrical, mechanical, and concrete construction. Ability to understand and interpret descriptions, construction plans, engineering records and maps; ability to establish effective working relationships with other department staff, contractors and the general public.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience. Must currently be enrolled in a Civil Engineering or closely related college program.
