This position will serve as a civil engineer responsible for assisting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) execute its tactical infrastructure (TI) construction, maintenance and repair program, which generally consists of the life cycle planning and execution of construction, maintenance and repair along the borders of the United States. The civil engineer shall have experience in the planning, design, construction, of horizontal projects including working understanding of Hydrology studies. The candidate shall have strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver "innovative solutions" and possess the skill of "creative problem solving."
Supports the chief engineer, USBP Wall Program Manager and leadership as a technical advisor & subject matter expert for engineering and construction related matters.
Supports chief engineer and may act on behalf of chief engineer as agency liaison with U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission.
Responsible for reviewing engineering designs and providing recommendations.
Assists with planning, design review and construction oversight of the most challenging/complex wall segments
Serves as a program expert and spokesperson for technical engineering and construction related issues with responsibility to present, explain, and defend to higher-level officials in CBP, DHS, and other government agencies and interested public groups
Collaborates with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Engineering, Business Management, key stakeholders, and other offices throughout the project life cycles
6+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
A current Professional Engineer (PE) license
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders.
Ability to effectively solve problems.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Available for approximately 40% travel
Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred.
