Civil Engineer EIT - Transit

Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer EIT - Transit for our Dallas office. In this position, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work with the transit team on construction management projects. The main responsibilities focus on contractor oversight and ensuring the construction is in accordance with the requirements set by the plans, specifications and contract documents. The candidate will be tasked with reviewing cost proposals, schedules, change order requests, submittals, inspection reports and other documents as necessary to verify the contract terms and conditions are met by the construction contractor. Contract administration and documentation will also be a key responsibility. This is an excellent opportunity for a young Engineer who wants to become a Construction / Project Manager on transit projects. The ideal candidate may have a background in civil, highway or transportation. Immediate need for role in construction management on transit maintenance facility construction project with an 18 month duration. Transit team can be flexible on career path after project completion.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

Duties/Responsibilities:

• This role will allow you to learn from experienced Construction Managers (CM) and build your own skill sets, management approaches, and knowledge base.

• By collaborating with a diverse range of construction managers, you will gain exposure to multiple problem-solving methodologies, management styles, and a clear path to future success.

• Monitor construction progress.

• Oversee quality assurance and materials testing.

• Quantity take-off and tracking of placed quantities.

• Review of construction schedules and contractor work plans.

• Review and manage contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings.

• Review and processing of change order requests.

• Document control duties of contract records with project closeout in mind.

• Interact and collaborate with clients, owners, subconsultants and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BSCE).

• 3 + years of experience working on transit or transportation projects.

• Effective communication skills to engage with project teams.

• An open mind to alternative methods from what you previously have been taught.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Ability to work on project site full-time.

• Previous Project Management experience.

• Previous experience with transit projects.

• Previous experience in construction or CEI projects.

• Ability to obtain Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within the next 1-2 years.

• Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times

• The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
