Job Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Project Manager, the Civil Engineer will perform civil engineering work for both the private and public sectors. In this role, work includes site development, commercial development plans, subdivisions, and roadways utilizing Civil 3D and other applicable software programs. Additionally, the Civil Engineer will exhibit exceptional professional and communication skills in a collaborative environment. The Civil Engineer, with the guidance of the Engineering Project Manager, works to meet the needs of clients by providing excellent technical input and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares engineering plans, design calculations, specifications, bid documents and cost estimatesConducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineerCreates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, andfinal working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineerCollects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineerUses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problemsPerforms work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule undersupervisionCompletes tasks efficiently by utilizing time to complete tasks accurately, ontime, and within budgetVisits sites regularly and attends meetings with clients/contractors as neededCommunicates with project team members, client representatives, and others as appropriate to the projectRequirements
Required Skills and Abilities
Civil design experience in roadway, grading, drainage, utility, and site development projectsKnowledge of local and state design standards and proceduresKnowledge of engineering and data analysis techniques and theoriesCapable of working independently or within a design teamAbility to professionally communicate with the project team, government agencies, and clientsHas a positive attitude and strong oral and written communication skillsCapable of handling multiple responsibilities concurrentlyExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlinesProficient with Microsoft Office 365, with the ability to learn updated softwareWorking knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and similar engineering softwareMust meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company informationHas a high level of customer service deliveryEducation and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in the design of civil engineering projects
- Must have an Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) certificate
- Must obtain a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or New Mexico within two (2) years of being hired
Physical Requirements- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to thirty (30) pounds at times
- Ability to work extended hours as required to meet client, project, and/or business demands
