Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer for employment in the New Orleans, LA office. This position will support our structural practice. This is for a full time position. AECOM often wins contracts to design some of the most complex and interesting hydraulic structures in the area, such as flood protection structures, flood gates, pump stations, navigation locks, intake structures, water diversion projects, ports facilities, and industrial buildings among other. This important role offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement through the participation in a variety of challenging projects. Ensuring that all design work is produced on time, to budget and in accordance with the project quality requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Performs assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.

  • Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercises judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Supervisor screens assignments and provides guidance in techniques and procedures to be applied.

  • Receives supervision on all aspects of assignments.

  • Work with project managers and other discipline team members.

  • Review of concept design reports.

  • Review project specific specifications in line with local standards and codes.

  • Completion of deliverables in agreed time and cost.

  • Manage large design projects for structural related activities and coordinated services.

  • Manage design according to local rules, regulations and design guides.

  • Manage QA and the checking of all design work carried out prior to formal issue.

  • Ensure full coordination between the Structural elements of the design team, throughout the design process.

  • Ensure full coordination between the Structural design team and other disciplines including geotechnical, architectural, civil and MEP engineers.

  • Manage engineers, technicians and CAD/BIM staff.

  • Review arithmetical checks and independent design checks of other design teams and design reviews in accordance with quality procedures.

  • Be responsible for the accuracy of the work of the team.

  • Able to see the "bigger picture" and take a birds-eye view on projects

  • Must be able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

  • Confident, with the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • 0-2 years of Civil or Structural Engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge of design codes for reinforce concrete design and structural steel design.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Staad, Sap2000, Finite Element experience or similar industry design software.

  • Computer Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering Degree

  • 2 years of relevant experience in projects related to hydraulic structures, flood protection, levees, ports, and industrial building projects with the USACE, CPRA, DOTD, SLFPA and local parishes.

  • Previous experience designing hydraulic structures using USACE criteria (US Army Corp of Engineer).

  • Working knowledge of design codes for hydraulic concrete structures and / or environmental structures

  • Experience utilizing structural analysis software packages.

Additional:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)

Overview: This position will be filled as an Engineer I, II, III or Sr commensurate with the qualification level and experience of the applicant. The Engineer is responsible for Natural Gas Distribution and Transmission system planning, hydraulic system modeling, updating and maintaining data utilized by the Distribution Integrity Management Plan (DIMP), implementing and tracking recommended DIMP actions, assisting with development of capital budget, maintaining and updating standards and procedures for Gas Operations, Project Management, and providing technical expertise to field employees. Responsibilities: * Provide Safety leadership/coaching to all employees to ensure a safety culture. * Create and deliver reports and presentations to communicate ideas, technical information, process improvement and project business cases. * Responsible for Review, Approval, Updating and Change Management of all new material Standards for Gas Operations. * Generate internal and external reports for regulatory compliance and gas distribution measures. * Communicate with Louisiana Dept of Natural Resource, Pipeline Safety Division, on any gas incidents or audits that occur. * Responsible to draft new or edit existing Procedures to ensure compliance with 192 regulations and business needs. * Responsible for Review, Approval, and Updating of all Procedures for Gas Operations, along with Gas' Operations and Maintenance Manual and Service Man Manual * Responsible for updating Gas Emergency Plan, Storm Plan, Security Plan * Responsible for ensuring Gas Compliance with PHMSA 191, 192 and 199 Pipeline Safety Regulations * Providing technical expertise on industry interpretations of PHMSA 192 and 199 Pipeline Safety Regulations. * Maintain relationships with other gas utility companies and benchmark against. Coordinate AGA Best Practices program. Coordinate data gathering and response to industry AGA SOS surveys. Also participate with LGA and SGA. * Responsible for facilitating Rapid Action Plan (RAP) process within Gas Operations to investigate incidents for root cause to prevent future issues. * Responsible for ensuring consistent Procedures and Processes are being used across Gas Operations and are meeting Compliance requirements. * Responsible for developing and updating Gas Integrity Risk Model and Integrity Management Plans (DIMP & TIMP – leak analysis studies, threat identification, mitigation processes) * Work extended hours in emergencies and be available for after-hours Duty Supervisor call-out rotation.
