Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Civil Engineer 3 to be based in our Salt Lake City, UT office.

Perform engineering assignments for civil project development, design, construction implementation of diverse waste management, and complex environmental cleanup project (soil, groundwater, and air).The Salt Lake City office specializes in developing studies, work plans, designs, and construction documents to support the regulatory licensing of hazardous and radioactive waste remediation projects and landfill projects, both in the US and globally.The position requires a person who has strong analytical, critical thinking skills, and computational abilities as related to developing engineering solutions to support these projects.The selected person will be a contributing key member of the engineering group and scientific group in Salt Lake City and support projects throughout the US and globally.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Using Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Software, develop CAD 3-D Models for design of large-scale earthen projects.

  • Using numerical modeling software such as MODFLOW, MT3DMS, MODPATH, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, etc., to develop solutions and recommendations for solving and mitigating contaminant flow in groundwater and surface water flow regimes.

  • Using computer software to develop solutions and input to design surface hydraulics, hydrology, and hydrogeology components of surface water, soil, and groundwater contamination.

  • Generate complete design calculations, specifications, and drawings for earthwork projects associated with earthen embankments, watersheds, stormwater, groundwater, and industrial landfills.

  • Responsible for designs, analyses, or design reviews.

  • Responsible for review of codes, standards, and regulations to identify key input in order to develop regulatory compliant documents and engineering work products.

  • Proficient in one of the following civil engineering disciplines:

  • Water resources, hydraulics, hydrology, and hydrogeology modeling and design associated with large environmental cleanup projects and earthwork projects.

  • Seismic design of both earthen and concrete structures

  • Geosynthetic design as related to earthwork projects.

  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop drawings, specifications and other requirements.

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation including design requirements, design reports, and operation and maintenance manuals.

  • Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels of design.

  • Conduct site visits and evaluate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and procedures.

  • Support development of proposals, including scope definition, staff resourcing, scheduling, and costing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.

  • At least 5 years of job-related experience or equivalent.

  • Experienced in design or construction management of regulatory clean-up projects under CERCLA, RCRA, or DOE. Experience may include strong academic research in these areas as related to environmental characterization and remediation.

  • Proficient in using hydraulic, hydrology, and hydrogeology Software.

  • Capable of navigating regulatory compliance issues.

  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Pursuing license as a FE and PE in any state supported by NCEES.

  • Recognized expert and published in engineering and scientific journals.

  • Design lead for industrial waste landfill projects and environmental cleanup projects.

  • Working knowledge of radioactive waste disposal facility design and operations.

  • Experienced serving as an Owner's representative for design and construction projects valued at least $5 to $10 million dollars.

  • 40-hr Hazwoper Trained.
