Summary/Objective:

General building maintenance to include light carpentry/light civil/light plumbing repairs

Essential Functions:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structures or fixture to be fabricated

  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials

  • Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy

  • Plans work and select the proper tools

  • Visualizes objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings

  • Installs carpet, VCT flooring, ceiling tiles, ceiling grid, and ceramic tile

  • Installs parquet flooring, metal stud walls, drywall installation, and finishing, painting cabinets and FRP

  • Installs and repairs of plumbing, fixtures, soil, waste, vent pipe repairs

  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square and calipers

  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, and marking gage

  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes

  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue

  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenters' level

  • Erects framework for structures and lays sub flooring

  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete

  • Installs door frames and hardware

  • Provides instruction to helpers

  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and brings problems to supervisor, safety or HR

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in general building maintenance and carpentry in a commercial industrial services environment; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience

  • Proficient in drywall finishing

  • Knowledge of materials, processes involved with basic building techniques and form construction

  • Must work within precise limits or standards of accuracy

  • Must be able to apply mathematics to solve problems

  • Experience setting hollow metal doors and frames

  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)

  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures

  • Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

Work Environment:

  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness

  • May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels

  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust

  • May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands:

  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools

  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms

  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Travel:

  • May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:

  • Prior military experience

  • HS diploma or GED equivalent

  • Concrete placement experience
