Job Purpose
Under general supervision perform a full range of technical duties related to the care, maintenance, and operation of venue sound, light, and rigging systems as well as production and stage management for local, regional and national productions for Civic Center events.
Essential Duties
Duty I: Technical
65% Time
Essential Tasks:
Design and execute complex stage productions with a variety of vendors, clients, and tours to include lighting, sound, production effects, and rigging
Review and advance technical specs and riders with scheduled shows and productions
Operate and maintain venue technical systems including rigging and fly system to include design, set-ups/hangs, programming, patching, operating, striking and storage
Draft stage and light plots, lighting design, lighting programming, cabling, and networking
Operate, preserve, and improve highly technical equipment in a responsible, fiscally sound, safe manner.
Interface and interact with vendors and clients and their staff, and members of the public
Plan, design, advocate for, and implement technical advancements and improvements to director as appropriate.
Duty 2: Management
20% Time
Essential Tasks:
Ensure accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of services
Recruit, train, assign duties, schedule, and maintain a pool of on-call staff
Maintain an inventory of technical and production equipment and supplies
Interact with clients, vendors and community in time-sensitive, high-stress situations.
Advise Civic Center Director on budget needs related to the scope of work including equipment and repair
Provide occasional non-technical staffing coverage for events and changeovers.
Duty 3: Safety & Operations
15% Time
Secondary Duties
Tasks:
Champion safety and training programs related to the venue
Assist with day-to-day tasks such as snow removal, building maintenance, and light janitorial
Assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regs with regard to OSHA requirements, building safety, and life safety
Assign and document safety training for technical staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Related to this Position: -
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices, and techniques of theater lighting, sound and rigging systems
Production audio and media; lighting and sound design
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
Skill or ability to:
Strong interpersonal skills to maintain relationships and effectively resolve conflict
Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software tools
Understand and work safely with electrical equipment and components
Utilize production and lighting design tools such as VectorWorks proficiently
License and/or Certificate Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire and have the ability to obtain a valid MT driver's license within six months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Training):
Related bachelor's degree with progressively responsible experience to include a minimum of two years experience as a lighting director, technical director and or sound engineer. Other relevant combinations of education, work experience, and licenses/certificates may be evaluated on an individual basis.
