City of Albuquerque Associate Director - Biological Park

Plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Biological Park within the Cultural Services Department including directing the planning of all zoo, aquarium, botanic garden, and Tingley Beach programs and exhibits, expansion of aquarium and botanic garden and acquisition of new animals; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative duties in support of the BioPark Administrator.

Experience Required

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in zoology, biology, business administration or public administration; and Eight (8) years of managerial experience in the operation and maintenance of zoological, aquarium or botanic garden programs; and To include five (5) years supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge: Operations, services and activities of a comprehensive zoological, aquarium and botanic garden program Principles and practices of program development and administration Principles and techniques of zoo, aquarium and botanic garden exhibit planning, design and construction Principles and procedures for caring for a variety of wild animals and plants Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations Preferred Skills & Abilities Plan, organize, direct and coordinate the work of lower level staff Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff Direct the planning of zoo, aquarium and botanic garden exhibits Oversee the acquisition of new animals Oversee the expansion of zoo, aquarium and botanic garden facilities Analyze and assess programs, policies and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs Develop and administer division goals, objectives and procedures Prepare administrative and financial reports Prepare and administer large and complex budgets Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals Research, analyze and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations Communicate clearly and concisely Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Salary

$48.48 - $50.89 Hourly
