City Engineer

DUTIES:

Prepares and submits, as required, periodic reports on the status of programs, plans and the delivery of services.

Directs engineering operations to include construction, design, acquisition of easements and right-of-ways, fund dispersal, and provision of engineering services to all city departments.

Manages the administration of construction projects and certifies project completion; certifies completion of construction for city projects.

Performs technical reviews of staff and consultant work and directs revisions as necessary.

Provide technical engineering advice to various city departments and city management and elected officials.

Supervise the preparation of contract documents, technical specifications, and plans. Initiate any action necessary to correct deviations or violations.

Consult with contractors, architects, engineers, and related interested parties regarding public works projects.

Negotiates changes in contracts with consulting engineers and organizations engaged in public works projects; reviews and approves appropriate change orders and pay estimates prior to submission to Council.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

A Master's degree is preferred.

Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering,

Four (4) years of managerial or administrative experience in planning and directing public works related programs and projects;

Two (2) years of supervisory experience, which includes supervision of management level personnel.

Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer.

PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
