The Role: The Citizenship Instructor will provide classes in citizenship preparedness to ESL speakers. Instructors are also responsible for managing student data, naturalization appointments, and following up with outcomes.
This is a PT position working 6-10 hours per week- Beaverton in person 10am-1pm on Thursday and Portland hybrid 10am-1pm on Friday
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepare Citizenship class and instructional materials
Conduct CASAS pre and post-test to understand the specific needs of each client and to identify their level of English
Teach the Citizenship class following the English competency levels required by the contract
Initiate outreach to eligible LPR's in the community for citizenship education
Maintain files for each client participating in the program including assessment and intake form
Maintain and provide quarterly data to the Program Manger
Model and encourage direct, professional communication among staff members and facilitate development of a positive staff support network
Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served
Other duties as assigned

Must have knowledge of United States civics and government
Ability to engage students in a classroom setting

Must be able to work in a multicultural setting
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in TESOL or related field required, M.A. TESOL preferred
One year of relevant teaching experience is required
Experience working with refugees and/or immigrants is required
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: ESL Teaching certificate required.
