Cisco Network Engineer

Mclean, VA (Remote option)

Long-term 1 year+ consulting engagement

IMMEDIATE new job opening for a Network Engineer to join our team and work on-site at our client's global HQs based out of Mclean, VA. Dallas, Texas is another potential work location, and remote work may be an option for the right candidate. This role

Network Engineer Responsibilities:

Design company networks and provide detailed technical documentation (LAN, WLAN, WAN).

Design, implement & audit complex configuration changes across a multi-vendor environment.

Perform moderate network design engineering level functions in support of a multi-site enterprise environment.

Manage small & medium scale complex projects understanding the interaction between wireless, voice, applications and network throughout an enterprise environment.

Provide oversight and support in design, configuration, management and implementation of computer/network architecture environments.

Demonstrate professional skill sets across multiple disciplines including IPS, Firewall, Route, Switch, SD-WAN, Wireless, VoIP.

Work professionally and inter-actively with internal and external customers globally.

Must be able act as a point of escalation for complex technical troubleshooting scenarios.

Making decisions that are critical in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning with potential to affect the successful execution of business transactions.

Coordinate with vendors to provide appropriate hardware to meet business requirements.

Required Skills:

o Bachelor's degree in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus.

o 15+ years' experience working within Cisco Network environment.

o Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.

o Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.

o Familiarity with access control models and network security.

o Ability to work with a vendor to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches & controllers.

o Strong understanding of networking and core Internet protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS & distributed networks.).

o Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems for corporate offices & network security solutions.

o Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.

o Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization.

o LAN, WAN & Network security industry-related experience as a Network Engineer or Network Security Engineer.


o Solid understanding of Cisco network operating systems (IOS, IOS XE, NX-OS).

o Solid understanding and experience working on Cisco Platforms/LAN/Switching: Cisco Catalyst/Nexus Platform/Meraki, Ether Channel, Multicast, SNMP, VSS, VTP, STP, RSTP, HSRP/VRRP, vDC, vPC, VRF, DHCP, Traffic Shaping, QoS.

o Technical Project management experience - preferred

o Professional certification (e.g. CCIE Written) - preferred

o Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl) - preferred

o Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools) - preferred

o Experience working on various Network product line such as Gigamon, F5 & Palo Alto - preferred

This is an exciting opportunity to work on-site at our Global client's HQs in McLean. The Senior Security Project Manager plans, organizes, and integrates cross-functional information technology projects that are significant in scope and impact. The successful candidate will have the expertise and experience to: o Set the foundation for a close collaboration with Systems and Network Engineering, Cyber Security, Operations units, and Subject Matter Experts, as well as senior management; o be responsible for managing customer communications and ensure accurate and timely delivery of products; o deliver information technology projects and will be responsible for tracking and reporting progress, issues, resource utilization, and funding status of all projects to the Program Manager and Executive Leadership. Responsibilities: o Responsible for end-to-end project management, demonstrating ownership of the entire process from beginning to end. o Produce timely and high quality work products in support of information technology projects, including scope, project plans, project schedules, requirements specifications, architectural diagrams and descriptions, test plans, test scripts, and other deliverables. o Manage change requests. Assess impact to scope, schedule and cost; and communicate with key stakeholders. o Prepare project status reports and financial reporting, weekly and as requested. o Organize and structure solutions to solve complex problems. o Create and deliver presentations to senior management on project goals and plans, progress reporting, updates, milestones, metrics, risks and issues. o Organize and facilitate project planning, status meetings, reviews, requirements and release planning, and other project-related meetings. o Become deeply immersed and knowledgeable about core systems, technologies, and technical platforms. o Understand the relationships, dependencies, and impact of neighboring business functions and projects.
