Job Title: Circulation and Engagement Coordinator
Department: Library
Reports To: Library Director
Job Type: This is a full time, non exempt position.
General Description:
The Circulation and Engagement Coordinator manages the operation of the Library during the academic year and leads outreach and Library marketing efforts directed at students, faculty, staff, and the University community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve students, faculty and staff, helping to create a learning environment in the library
Operate circulation desk: charge and discharge library materials, collect fines, reserve equipment, register on-site borrowers, etc.
Communicates library circulation policies to faculty, staff, and students and resolves circulation problems in conformance with library procedures and policies
Supervise library work-study students, assigning tasks as appropriate (includes hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluating work-study students and approving timecards)
Responsible for the library's social media accounts, including the design and implementation of the library marketing plan, the creation of original content and graphics, and moderation of follower engagement
Collaborate with faculty and university departments on applicable projects to support student experience and university goals
Plan and present Library programming including LEAD events such as Banned Books Week (Fall) and National Library Week (Spring)
Design and build displays to highlight items in the library collection
Create and maintain Course Reserves for faculty/staff
Organize daily MOBIUS lending and borrowing, including preparation and receipt of MOBIUS shipments
Assist in the setup and use of equipment in the Library Auditorium
Serve as backup for some Library Specialist duties including Interlibrary Loan borrowing requests and maintenance of Newspaper/Periodical Collections
Maintain order and safety in the library during open hours and act as building supervisor
Open and close library building according to established procedures
Answer basic procedural and directional questions
Answer the main library telephone and respond to callers' needs
Provide basic computer/printer support for UIT lab computers
Perform other duties that are essential to the achievement of efficient library operations
Cooperate with others in the timely and effective completion of assigned responsibilities
Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
High School diploma required; bachelor degree preferred
One year office experience, preferably in an academic library
Supervisory experience
Dependability
Ability to express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications
Ability to assign tasks to and check the work of work-study students
Ability to operate a microcomputer
Ability to work well with people of varying educational and cultural backgrounds and experience levels
Ability to work cooperatively with other library and university employees
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, solve problems creatively and constructively, cope with a changing environment, and be self-motivated
Ability to lift, move, and carry a minimum of twenty pounds up and down stairs
Ability to conduct business over the telephone
Typical Physical Demands:
Normal office environment.
Ability to climb several flights of stairs several times each day
Ability to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds
Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Ability to speak and read English fluently
Ability to hear
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation
Work Schedule:
This is a benefit-eligible, 40-hour-per-week position with the possibility of occasional evening work required. Option of 10 (June and July off) or 12-month position.
