Circuit Designer and Reliability ScientistJob Description

Circuit Designer and Reliability Scientist provide circuit design, layout, circuit simulations, reliability analysis, and project management. Research the reliability mechanisms and their impact on circuits and also develop mitigation techniques.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Custom circuit design, pre-Si validation, layout and tape-in of designs targeted to support development of process technologies.

  • Understanding mechanisms that limit reliability of Intel's products.

  • Defining creative approaches to characterize these mechanisms through circuit design on test chips, architect the test chips, and develop design definitions.

  • Designing schematics and work with layout engineers on implementation.

  • Creating bottoms up elements of chip design including block level custom layouts, floor plans, abstract view generation, RC extraction and schematic to layout verification and debug using phases of physical design development including parasitic extraction, static timing, wire load models, clock generation, customer polygon editing, auto place and route algorithms, floor planning, full chip assembly, packaging, and verification.

  • Troubleshooting a wide variety up to and including difficult design issues and applied proactive intervention.

  • Scheduling, staffing, executing, and verifying complex chips development and execution of project methodologies and/or flow developments.

  • Requiring expansive knowledge and practical application of methodologies and physical design.

This is an entry level position and will be compensated accordingly.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Relevant experience can be obtained through school work, classes and project work, internships, military training, and/or work experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, or related field.

  • Minimum of 9 months of experience with digital or analog circuit design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical expertise on wafer fabrication process and equipment.

Partner with process development teams to define new transistor architectures, materials, and process flows. Develop and conduct electrical tests to quantify transistor reliability behavior and identify new fail modes that may be present in emerging technologies. Develop physics-based and empirical compact models that will be used by design teams to ensure product reliability. The engineer's responsibilities may include but not be limited to:-Designing and executing experiments to determine the necessary parameters for reliability model development and validation.-Developing new acceleration techniques and analytical tools to assure the early identification of potential reliability problems with new products, manufacturing processes, and transistor architecture.-Developing risk assessments and making quality and reliability predictions based on data that collected using statistical principles and design of experiments fundamentals.-Creating reliability design layout rules and specifications.-Advising design engineering on selection, application and test of electronic components and systems.-Collaboration with cross functional teams to solve technical / reliability issues during technology development and ramp to high-volume manufacturing.-Recommending process technology certification evaluation and acceptance criteria.-Recommending material, design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability.-Partners may include Logic Technology Development LTD, wafer Fab Manufacturing and Test FSM, Assembly and Test Manufacturing ATM, Intel Custom Foundry, and partners within Intel's Customer Quality Network CQN focused on Product, Development, and Manufacturing Reliability. Experience can be obtained through a combination of prior education, current Ph.D. course work, projects, research and any relevant prior job/internships. Expertise in semiconductor device physics and excellent communication skills are essential.
