The Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) Operational Risk Management (ORM) team is responsible for independently assessing, reviewing and overseeing the management of Operational Risk by the first line of defense.

The successful candidate will join a small team of risk professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience who collectively ensure that the Firm's Operational Risk Management Framework is implemented and functions effectively within CIB Markets.

Description

The successful candidate will be based in New York. The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Understanding growth or changes in business models and how these will impact operational risk

  • Independently evaluating and challenging implementation of the firm's Operational Risk Management Framework ("ORMF"), promoting cross-LOB/Function consistency and adoption of best practices.

  • Challenging the mitigation of catastrophic risks relating to Electronic Trading (E-Trading) Operational Risk Management

  • Building out the E-Trading Operational risk Management Framework designed to provide effective challenge to the growing E-Trading Business activities across CIB Markets.

  • Reviewing new or material changes to E-Trading Activities.

  • Reviewing the risks identified by the first line of defense. Where appropriate, providing independent and credible challenge to the first line and escalating any new or emerging risks or issues.

  • Independently assesses operational risks for relevant Markets business through quantitative and qualitative means. Drive the second line of defenses independent assessment which identifies risk drivers that may impact operational risk activities and the controls to help mitigate such risks.

  • Using the results of risk assessments to identify heightened areas of operational risk to independently monitor the risks and test the effectiveness of controls within the relevant Markets business.

  • Utilizing key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and other metrics to periodically identify areas where incremental monitoring and / or testing may be needed. Reviewing and enriching KRIs and KPIs as required.

  • Informing the firm of operational risk levels and provide associated second line of defense support to all areas of the firm.

  • Identifying issues for the first line of defense to remediate through action plans and reviewing KRI and KPI thresholds, as required.

  • Leveraging a centralized strategy for metrics and dashboard reporting to support the CIB Markets ORM Mandate.

  • Reporting on results including changes in risk assessments, results of monitoring and testing, and required corrective actions to senior management, consistent with the firm's escalation practices.

  • Providing input into policies and standards established by Operational Risk and the second line of defense which set forth the requirements for CIB regarding the management of operational risk and enables oversight and independent assessment over operational risks inherent within the firm's activities.

  • Liaising with key stakeholders across Markets including first, second and third line of defence.

  • Driving the broader Operational Risk agenda through research, presentations, assessments and reviews

  • Bring a focus upon internal process re-engineering, with a view to making recommendations and enhancements to existing Risk processes where opportunities arise

  • Stay abreast of industry news and regulatory developments to facilitate proactive risk identification and mitigation.

  • Review root cause analysis on internal operational risk events and maintain vigilance on external operational / market events

  • Minimum Bachelor degree; or sufficient compensating experience

  • Experience with risk management, product ownership, business management and operations, controls management, or application development with an emphasis on financial markets.

  • Understanding of Markets business, internal systems (including E-Trading systems), processes, front to back trade life cycle in detail an advantage

  • Excellent project management with successful track record of completion

  • Strong team player and self-starter

  • Passionate and capable of learning in a changing environment while delivering results

The Custody and Fund Services business provides middle office services, custody, accounting and administration for investment managers and asset owners, including mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity, real estate funds, pension funds, and fund of funds. Investment Middle Office Services (IMOS) is a key fund services product that provides asset managers the ability to leverage JP Morgan's operational expertise and market leading technology and data infrastructure to manage their trade processing, asset servicing, collateral management, and investment record capabilities. The product encompasses a multi-asset class offering across listed securities, equity swaps, cleared and OTC derivatives, and bank loans, focusing on the needs of large asset managers. The Role The IMOS Product Development VP will drive design and delivery of key aspects of the strategic middle office product, which leverages investment bank-wide capabilities to implement efficient and competitive product solutions. This role will focus on real-time investment data across all asset classes for client consumption into front office order management systems and client data platforms. This individual will provide subject matter expertise on investment data across all asset classes, including lifecycle data, for use by front office, performance, risk, and other asset manager functions. In addition, the role requires definition and execution of the roadmap based on current client mandates and potential new funds. The individual will work with clients, product management, sales and service teams, and technology to build out and enhance these components for investment middle office. In addition to interfacing with clients and product teams, this role offers an opportunity to further develop expertise across securities services and data platform capabilities. Given the pace of change, responsibilities of the role will include strategic thinking on FinTech, Big Data, etc to provide a competitive product to the market. Key responsibilities for this role include: * Subject matter expertise on middle office trade and position management, the investment data structures to support the processing, and it's use by large asset managers across asset classes * Design and deliver against the strategic MOS roadmap through the full project life cycle, including analysis, design of the client experience and service model, and testing / migration of the components for delivery * Identify opportunities for product improvement and differentiation, efficiency and standardization, present and drive process improvements * Partner with the technology team to execute the development of the toolset, providing requirements and ensuring delivery is on time and on budget * Communicate progress of the product development effort with all levels of the organization to keep team members and leadership apprised of progress and challenges Qualifications: * Minimum two years experience at a large asset manager performing operational change management, technology development, or trading desk support, or in another business line that provides middle office related services and data, such as Prime Brokerage * Experience designing and implementing solutions, either for clients or for improvement of internal processes, including development of the roadmap and plan / timelines for execution. * Energetic self-starter with ability to drive delivery of the strategic vision with demonstrated effectiveness leading a multi-disciplinary team * Excellent communication capabilities, clearly and succinctly message with appropriate level of detail to cross-functional teams, senior management, and clients * Strong collaboration skills, able to work with many different individuals and partner effectively with different groups * Strong program management skills, must be organized and able to develop a program plan and break down into achievable deliverables * Proven track record of effectively resolving issues and conflicts to ensure timely delivery Jpmorgan Chase & Co.
