Position Title: Director of Children's Ministry
Supervisor: Lead Associate Pastor

Mission: The Director of Children's Ministries shall develop a vision and implement a Children's Ministry program for the Camp Hill United Methodist Church:
This includes identifying, recruiting, equipping, and deploying persons into places of ministry that match their spiritual gifts. It is a primary responsibility of the Director to lead an excellent ministry to children and their families in the church, so that the children of Camp Hill UMC will be rooted in Christ, relate with each other and reach into the community and beyond.
Implement an intentional ministry plan that carries on the vision of the children's ministry and "grows children's hearts for God." The plan shall be biblical, child & family-centered and developed with sensitivity to the age and stage of the children in each of the classes/programs. The plan shall include a team approach covering infants through 5th graders for Sunday mornings, Wednesday Connection, special event planning and Camp Hill UMC's Upward Sports Ministry.
Supervise the Children's Ministry Assistant/Director of Nursery.
Identify, recruit, train, support and equip volunteers for Sunday morning, Wednesday Connection, VBS, Upward Sports Ministry, and other special events.
Work closely with the Upward Leadership Team to vision, plan, and manage Flag Football and Cheer season, and the Upward Basketball and Cheer season.
Create weekly age-appropriate lesson plans for all students in Preschool-Grade 5
Hold weekly Team Huddles with Sunday school lead teachers and assistants to equip and encourage them.
Oversee our Children's Ministry Welcome Desk and computerized check-in stations and implement a specific plan that welcomes new families.
Provide an excellent children's worship experience during the 9:30am Sunday school Large Group that includes music, offering, scripture memorization, testimonies and Bible teaching for grades K-5.
Work with the Youth Ministry Director to allow for an integrated transition between children's ministry and youth programs.
Develop, implement and communicate a 'back-up' coverage plan to include Sundays, Wednesdays and special events.
Lead high-quality outreach events including Vacation Bible School (VBS), the Family Christmas Event, the Family Easter Event, Upward Sundays, and other special events, as needed.
Be willing to explore imaginative children's engagement with scripture, as per the Godly Play model.
Provide tangible ways for children to be involved in our 11am Family Worship Service by overseeing the PrayGround, and by providing age-appropriate bulletins, sensory bags, and opportunities for service.
Work to provide various options to kids for Christian summer camp, including partnering with Aroma Sports Camp and Camp Penn.
Be prepared, visible and accessible for volunteers.
Maintain and enforce the Camp Hill UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy to include all children's programs at the church, including keeping track of all volunteer clearance records.
Keep accurate registration records of all children and their families.
Provide spiritual support and resources to children and families. Develop an ongoing relationship with children and their families which nurtures and encourages growth.
Maintain strong connection with CHUM Preschool and Upward to create bridges for families from these programs to the church.
Stay current with trends, information, and resources for and about children.
Regularly attend staff meetings and other meetings as needed.
Keep accurate financial records, develop an appropriate ministry area budget, and operate within the allotted budget.
Continue to develop as a servant leader through means of worship, prayer, Bible study and involvement in a small group for spiritual growth. Be a faithful steward of time, talent and treasure.
Work respectfully as a member of a team with church staff in a way that will provide support for the team while helping to meet the goals and fulfill the vision and mission of the church.
Love for children and a commitment to their spiritual growth
B.A. degree in ministry or B.S. in Education or another related field of disciplinary study from an accredited undergraduate institution or appropriate depth of experience within the practice of children's ministry (preferred) or childhood development/elementary education
Training and experience in volunteer recruitment and development (preferred)
Experience in planning and running large events (preferred)
Person must be enthusiastic, have strong teaching gifts, be well organized, flexible and creative
Person must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Basic computer proficiency
Able to meet the physical demands of an active children's ministry environment
Conditions of Employment:
The Director of Children's Ministries shall perform the above responsibilities under the supervision of the Lead Associate Pastor, and the Unified Leadership Council.
The employee shall be evaluated annually by the Lead Pastor, Lead Associate Pastor and/or the Unified Leadership Council.
