Children's Mental Health Practitioner

We are seeking Children's Mental Health Practitioner candidates for our Day Treatment team. Our Day Treatment program helps children, teens and families overcome emotional problems and situational barriers in order to improve their lives and family relationships. We aim to help children develop age-appropriate coping skills, decrease aggression and/or self-defeating behaviors, improve family support systems, develop positive relationships with adults and peers, and improve functioning in the home, school, and community.

Hours: Monday-Friday, day time hours

Location: New Hope, MN

Hiring Range: $20.83 - $22.67

Required qualifications:

  • All mental health practitioners for children recipients must have training working with children

and either

  • High School Diploma

  • Three years of full-time experience in the delivery of mental health services supervised by a licensed mental health professional (LP, LMFT, LPCC, LICSW)


  • Bachelor's degree in behavior science or a related field


  • Master's degree in behavior science or a related field

Preferred qualifications:

  • With the Bachelor's degree we prefer that candidates have one year of full-time experience in the delivery of mental health services that has been supervised by a licensed mental health professional (LP, LMFT, LPCC, LICSW)

  • Experience working with children with mental illness and/or severe emotional and behavioral disturbances

  • Experience leading groups and developing curriculum

Main Job Duties:

  • Actively participating in skill building activities and developing positive relationships with clients

  • Ensuring safe and responsible behavior of the clients by using verbal redirection, proximity management, and positive encouragement

  • Partner with therapists in carrying out the activities in support of goals identified in client's individual treatment plan

  • Provide active behavior management support to the milieu using strategies of verbal redirection, time outs, sensory breaks, physical restraints, and behavior management contracts in compliance with program standards and guidelines.

  • Demonstrate intermediate-level of clinical knowledge and modeling as it relates to the individual's goals, treatment plan and diagnosis

  • Provide and model crisis intervention and de-escalation for clients experiencing mental health symptoms or other emotional and/or behavioral responses while prioritizing client and program safety

  • Facilitate and conduct individual and group CTSS skills services that address a variety of needs and health concerns for the client

  • Performing physical restraints or holds of clients as necessary

  • Completing clinical documentation

Seeking an enthusiastic and creative therapist to provide primarily school-based mental health therapy. Services provided onsite at schools in-person or remotely through telemedicine, shifting between methods as determined by each school's learning model. Opportunity may be available to provide some services on site at clinic in New Hope and/or remotely via telemedicine. Candidates of color are strongly encouraged to apply. Essential Duties and Responsibilities as a Mental Health Therapist: * Provide comprehensive clinical diagnostic assessment, individual and family psychotherapy, and clinical management to address emotional, behavioral and mental health issues of child and adolescent students. * Participate in case consultation and provide input to the multidisciplinary team, representing the disciplines of social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or clinical counseling in client's treatment plans. * Serve as an expert in mental health of children and adolescents on the school's team. * Complete all related clinical documentation for assigned clients in a professional and timely fashion. * Willingness to provide in-home therapy when needed. * Ability to provide day-to-day outreach in school to teachers regarding emotional and behavioral needs of students. * Ability to provide presentations on topics related to mental health to school staff upon request. * Provide in-person services at the school and telemedicine services remotely, shifting between methods as determined by each school's learning model. * There may be opportunity to provide therapeutic services to clients in the clinic setting either in-person and/or remotely via telemedicine. Clients served at the clinic range in age from youth through adulthood. Multiple positions available (Part-time and full-time). Each provider will generally work full time during the school year and part-time during the summer. Employee will remain eligible for benefits year round, despite hours reduction during summer.
