A typical workday as caseworker is varied and fast paced; you'll juggle problem-solving, decision-making, and time management. Caseworkers investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect, coordinate responses with law enforcement, and testify in court; keep detailed case notes, write safety plans, and gather file documentation; perform file review under supervision; contact financial and healthcare organizations to help individuals obtain financial aid to pay for schooling or medical treatment; conduct in-person appointments to discuss case progress or assess the home environment; talk with medical personnel and in-home care workers to assure clients receive proper medications, meals, and level of attention, including suitable living situations and/or access to rehabilitation programs.

Requirements

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor's degree that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences OR possess two years as a county social services aide III with two years of college-level coursework that includes 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences OR any equivalent combination of experience and education that includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year as a county social services aide III or similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
