Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
We are in search of new talent in the following position
Position: Childcare Supervisor (RFR501)
Develop, implement and evaluate an Individual Educational Plan for each student; plans for and delivers curriculum in classroom.
Minimum an Associate 's degree in Social Science, Applied Health Science or Human Services and at least two years teaching or childcare experience with a similar population.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
The below enumerated principal responsibilities are inclusive of both program specific and firm-wide related administration, as applicable.
Manage instructional environment in a manner that fosters learning and growth. Direct classroom activities on a daily basis.
Instruct childcare assistants.
Evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis, maintaining necessary records.
Write annual goals, behavioral objectives, and intervention strategies for students.
Prepare daily activity schedule and coordinate with other disciplines.
Assess developmental functioning and learning skills of students in all areas, at regularly planned intervals.
Consult and interface with colleagues on team on all phases of student program.
Make parent contacts, provide for transition of instruction to home, and assure parent partnership, make home visits and invite parents for school visits.
Maintain daily lesson plan book which displays instruction in all content areas.
Perform other related duties as requested.
Expected Results of Principal Responsibilities:
Learning and growth are promoted. Classroom activities are monitored.
Childcare Assistants' job functions are appropriately delegated.
Student progress is monitored.
Goals, objectives, and strategies are created.
Daily activities are scheduled appropriately.
Students' skills are assessed regularly.
Teamwork is promoted.
Open communication is promoted between teachers and parents.
Daily lesson plans are maintained.
All other related tasks are completed on time and accurately.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in a residential housing shelter environment.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, talk and hear while communicating with peers, clients and/or vendors. This is an active position and requires sitting, standing, bending and walking. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds.
