GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provide quality supervision of children and excellent customer service while promoting a safe and engaging childcare environment for guests of the Chilson Recreation Center.

Weekly Shift Schedule: Shifts will vary based on class schedules and are based on the following hours of operation:

Memorial Day-Labor Day 8:45am-1:30pm Monday-Friday

Labor Day-Memorial Day 8:45am-1:30pm Monday-Friday, 4:00pm-7:00pm Monday-Friday, 9:00am-12:00pm Saturday

The hiring range for this position is $14.42- $15.16 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Position will remain open until filled.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Exemplifies excellent customer service by providing a quality experience for guests while they utilize the childcare program.

  • Receives and greets parents and children; answers questions regarding childcare guidelines and registration of children for childcare.

  • Proactively enforces childcare and Recreation Department policies and procedures, including all applicable procedures specified by the Health Department.

  • Supervises and interacts with children while promoting a safe and healthy environment.

  • Ensure all children's needs are met, including infant diapering and feeding.

  • Assists with general maintenance and cleaning of childcare room, equipment and toys.

  • Disseminates and promotes Parks and Recreation program information; directs public to proper locations; educates users of potential opportunities and services available; provides general facility use instructions; enforces facility policy and procedures by informing guests of existing policies; observes guest use and informs supervisors of improper facility or equipment use.

  • Resolves administrative concerns by applying appropriate policies and procedures through positive interaction and involvement with Youth Programming and public.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: May be required to cross-train in other areas for duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Must possess general working knowledge of childcare operations. Previous work experience supervising children in a childcare setting at a recreation facility preferred.

Must possess proven, excellent customer service skills, in a busy environment with the ability to interact positively with young children. Must demonstrate good judgment, patience, and decision-making in handling a variety of difficult situations involving childcare guests. Must be able to effectively and diplomatically communicate with parents and children as well as co-workers in a busy environment. Must be at least 14 years old.

Education and/or experience:

One (1) year of previous work experience performing similar childcare services preferably in a facility setting and customer service duties, including high degree of public contact and customer relations in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer knowledge preferred.

Licensure and/or certifications:

Must currently possess or be able to successfully complete provided CPR and First Aid training within 30 days of hire date and prior to working with children. Clearance from state and federal fingerprint and background checks is required. If applicable, additional provided trainings may be required (injury prevention, standard precautions, etc.).

Telephone, television, DVD player, children's toys, cleaning supplies, computer, photocopier, two-way radio, personal protective equipment

Working Environment/physical activities:

This is a year-round position; must be willing and available to work a regular schedule on a year-round basis. This position will be required to work varied hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Requires the ability to lift children weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds; also requires bending, pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling and climbing to perform the essential functions of the job. Will be expected to change diapers, feed babies, change children's clothes and other care giving duties including exposure to associated cleaning materials. Will be exposed to noxious fumes from cleaning supplies. Will be expected to perform the duties of a childcare attendant during both peak periods when customer service activity is fast paced and intense or during relaxed periods.

Work Note: On-site childcare is not available for employees.
