Childbirth Educator

The Childbirth Educator informs and empowers new and expectant parents through evidence-based perinatal health education. Provides important information (according to their area of expertise) as families prepare for birth, newborn care, and/or breastfeeding. Provides excellent educational experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Reviews class rosters and appropriately plans activities for class participants. Provides instruction based on specified Inova Well program curriculum. Appropriately utilizes education materials and audio/visual learning aids to enhance program effectiveness.

• Responds accurately and appropriately to participant questions and issues.

• Demonstrates ability to apply research and standards as issues emerge during learning situations.

• Gathers and communicates participant and site contact feedback to the program manager.

• Obtains and returns necessary supplies, equipment in a timely manner. Completes and delivers all paperwork in a timely manner.

• May perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Certification

• Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire; Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, ICEA, CAPPA or other Childbirth Education Certifications required upon start; If Registered Nurse do not need these certifications

Licensure

• If ADN or BSN, licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Education

• Associate Degree
