The Division of Family and Community Services (FACS) in Region 4 currently has an opening in our Boise Field Office for a Child Welfare Social Worker 3 with a focus on Safety Assessment.

This is the third of a six-level Child Welfare job series. Incumbents at this level serve as lead workers in a social service unit and mentor students and newer social worker staff completing the Child Welfare Academy. Incumbents provide consultation to other Social Workers on complex cases, and work autonomously in single-person and small field offices where supervision is periodic and at a distance, and may serve as a supervisor. The incumbent may provide supervision to Child Welfare Social Worker 1's and 2's on the team in the absence of the team's assigned Child Welfare Supervisor.

Example of Duties

  • Design, organize, develop, implement, and monitor effectiveness of case plans on regular caseloads

  • Review and evaluate the design and effectiveness of case plans developed by students and probationers

  • Determine appropriate child placement to ensure least restrictive environment and take necessary action to reduce risk to child and family

  • Provide emergency and crisis intervention services

  • Perform and/or review family risk assessments and determine need and eligibility of services and level of care

  • Develop safety plans for children and prepare concurrent permanency plans

  • Evaluate special needs, problems, and resources and provide service plans that may include counseling social services, support and change-oriented activities

  • Prepare case record notes attesting to engagement with and results from specific kinds of service

  • Lead and participate in interdisciplinary team staffing to modify treatment plans and design and recommend treatment modalities for problem resolution and specific case interventions

  • Refer clients and others to community resources and provide/review court-related services including testimony, mediation, negotiation, and implementation of agreements and recommend need for legal intervention

  • Review adoption documents from each region and make recommendations

  • Recruit for and/review home studies and other documents related to Foster Care Licensing

  • Provide consultation, technical assistance, and mentor social work students and probationary staff attending Child Welfare Academy

  • Review/evaluate intake reports, case plans, assessments, and court-related services related to CBLC

  • ?Provide input to supervisors regarding observed individual progress and performance

  • Plan and organize work of students and new staff and assign, review, and approve work

  • Provide in-service training to unit staff and serve as agency field instructor for Title IV-E Stipend and other students

  • Consult with and provide technical assistance to law enforcement officials, court personnel, and collaborate with community resources including social service/school staff and foster/adoptive parents

  • Use keyboard to document and enter client data into computerized record systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Social Worker in Idaho in accordance with Idaho Code 54-3201 et.seq.

AND

  • Three years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho.

OR Two years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and one academic year (9 months) of child welfare practicum experience may substitute for one year of experience.

OR Two years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and six months as a mentor in the Child Welfare Academy, as designated by a supervisor may substitute for one year of experience.

OR Two years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and service as a field instructor for an accredited social work program.

OR Two years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and a Master of Social Work Degree.

OR Two years experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and one year experience in another public child welfare system or child welfare agency.

OR One year experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases in Idaho and two or more years experience in another public child welfare system or child welfare agency.

AND

  • Applicants must possess a valid Idaho driver's license.

This is the first of a six-level Child Welfare job series. This Child Welfare Social Worker position is designated for persons with general social work qualifications who have no prior child welfare experience. This position is considered an under fill for the Child Welfare Social Worker 2 position. Incumbents serve a nine-month probationary period and participate in the Child Welfare Academy in order to learn Idaho child welfare practices and standards and complete Child Welfare Academy assignments. These positions require incumbents to work effectively with individuals and families under stress, difficult circumstances and from diverse backgrounds. During the nine-month probationary period, incumbents carry a reduced child welfare caseload under the guidance of child welfare supervisors or designated experienced child welfare social workers to gain knowledge and expertise necessary to provide professional child welfare social work services to children and families who are subjects of child abuse or neglect. We also have current openings throughout the State for Child Welfare Social Worker 2. These positions are the second of the six-level Child Welfare job series; requirements include completion of the Child Welfare Academy, or at least two years of experience in a public child welfare system or child welfare agency, or a Master of Social Work degree.
