Overview

The Child Watch Attendant provides quality care to children 12 weeks to 8 years of age who participate in the child-watch while their family is using the facility. The Child Watch Attendant is expected to emphasize member service, character development, mission statement, and to work with membership retention and promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.

  • Must maintain a safe environment for children.

  • Must interact with children on their level of understanding.

  • Must provide activities, arts and crafts, and YMCA approved curriculum.

  • Must follow good health practices including; changing diapers, washing hands, cleaning play surfaces and toys, and attending to runny noses and mouths, etc.

  • Greet each child and family as they arrive and leave.

  • Maintain records of children participating in program.

  • Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.

  • Know and understand the child watch area for safety reasons along with emergency procedures of the building.

  • Responsible for injury/accident reporting procedures.

  • Current knowledge of all areas of training and certifications as well as YMCA of Greater Kansas City employee handbook.

  • Attend community functions and events to promote the YMCA, its mission and programs.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well organized area.

Qualifications

  • Able to reflect a positive image and attitude.

  • At least 16 years of age.

  • Certifications in Professional CPR/AED and First Aid. (Required within 30 days of employment.)

  • Ability, desire, and basic skills to work with children.

  • Ability to relate to people on all levels in a friendly and consistent manner.

  • Able to reflect a positive attitude.

The Lifeguard is also responsible for informing and serving YMCA members and volunteers in a premier fashion. Lifeguard Certification To apply for a lifeguard position, applicants should hold a current lifeguard certification from an accredited organization (ASHI, Red Cross, Ellis, etc.). Lifeguard is not to do secondary duties in place of scanning their zone of protection. * Make sure that the pool deck is free of clutter and perform all maintenance duties assigned by Aquatic Director. * Test pool chemical levels and report changes to Aquatics Director immediately. * Fill out all Y accident and incident reports completely and turn into the Aquatics Director. * Responsible for opening and closing procedures. * Responsible for maintaining the continuity of lap swim and moving participants accordingly. * Must be able to be a team player with all staff. * Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately. * Must participate in special events within the Aquatics Department and may include events facility-wide. * Must participate in events benefiting the Annual Mission campaign. Qualifications * Must be 16 years of age. * Tread water for 2 minutes, no hands * Swim 250 yards without stopping using a variety of specific strokes * Swim to the bottom of a 9-12 foot pool. * Sprint 25 yards, retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool, tread water with the object for 1 minute, climb out of the pool without using a ladder or other assistance. * Perform 100 chest compressions on a mannequin. * Able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
