Job Duties

Sign-on Bonus Candidates are eligible for sign-on bonus Up to a $25,000 that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.

  • $15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.

  • An additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who are hired after November 9th, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written agreement.

Who We Are

Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is the state psychiatric hospitals operating since 1975 under Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services and provides treatment through multidisciplinary teams of child psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, nurses, social workers, activities therapists, teachers and behaviorally trained direct care staff. Individual treatment plans are developed for each child.

The programs provide for a full range of individual, group, family, milieu, and medication modalities for stabilization and resumption of effective functioning.

CCCA 48-bed is a Joint Commission accredited facility located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns and is affiliated with the University of Virginia-Department of Psychiatric Medicine and provides a training ground for professionals from other colleges and universities in the fields of nursing, social work, psychology, and activities therapy.

Purpose of Position

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Child Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in child and adolescent psychiatry and a commitment to providing comprehensive and personalized care to our patients. As a Child Psychiatrist, you will play a vital role in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health disorders in children and adolescents, including but not limited to ADHD, depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders.

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of children and adolescents to assess their mental health needs and formulate individualized treatment plans.

  • Provide evidence-based psychiatric treatment, including medication management, psychotherapy, and other therapeutic interventions, to children and adolescents with mental health disorders.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals, to ensure holistic and coordinated care for patients.

  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of patients through regular follow-up appointments and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

  • Educate patients and their families about mental health disorders, treatment options, and strategies for coping and managing symptoms.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities, including conferences, workshops, and training sessions, to stay abreast of the latest advancements in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • License from the VA State Board of Medicine. (Employment is contingent upon receipt of license from the VA State Board of Medicine.)

  • Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe controlled substances

  • Completion of an approved residency in General Psychiatry

  • Experience with diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and individual and family therapy.

  • Experience in pharmacotherapy practice with emphasis on pediatric populations.

  • Board certification or Board eligible in Child Psychiatry.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with Electronic Health Record, preferred.

  • Bilingual and Veterans or Veterans spouse are preferred.
