We are seeking to fill multiple Child Protective Services (CPS) Worker (SSS1) positions in our Albany office!

What you need to qualify

We are looking for candidates with a bachelor's degree in human services or a field related to human services.

OR

A bachelor's degree unrelated to human services, and either:

  1. One year of human services-related experience, OR

  2. Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon caseworker competency.


OR

An associate degree and either:

  1. Two years of human services-related experience, OR

  2. One year of human services-related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with Oregon caseworker competency.


A valid Oregon driver license and acceptable driving record are necessary for this position.

Essential attributes

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Knowledge of or experience with crisis intervention and/or conflict resolution techniques.

  • Experience using data to conduct investigations and/or formal reviews to assess compliance with standards, policies, regulations, or laws.

  • Ability to attend court hearings related to CPS Assessments.

  • Experience defining and explaining complex rules and guidelines in a variety of settings.

  • Experience writing reports that include conclusions and recommended action.

  • Experience connecting with children and families under time-sensitive and challenging circumstances, to gather information and make informed decisions that are inclusive of the child and the family's language, race and culture.

  • Experience working with community partners and organizations.

  • Experience working alongside colleagues to reach a common goal.

Your duties at a glance

As a Child Protective Services Worker, you will:

  • Respond to allegations of alleged child abuse and neglect.

  • Conduct fact-finding interviews with children, parents, and other parties.

  • Observe home environments.

  • Make determinations about whether abuse or neglect has occurred and taking protective measures when appropriate.

  • Arrange medical evaluations and substitute care placement of children.

  • Attend court hearings and meetings related to child protective services assessments.

  • Fulfill various documentation requirements.

Working conditions

  • Employee's work may be conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites. Home environments may be unsafe or unsanitary.

  • These positions require the incumbent to work a professional work week where the hours of work fluctuate on a daily and weekly basis.

  • Normal working hours are between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., however occasional compensated overtime on nights and weekends may be required.

  • You may come into contact with individuals who have experienced trauma and have difficulty controlling their emotions.

  • Work will involve stressful situations that can require quick decision-making skills to ensure the safety of those being served and your own physical safety. This may be trauma inducing.

  • This job requires a valid Oregon's Driver's License.
