CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATOR SUPERVISOR - SES

THIS REQUISITION WILL SERVE TO FILL SEVERAL CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATOR SUPERVISOR-SES POSITIONS IN DUVAL COUNTY / JACKSONVILLE.

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for candidates with strong leadership skills who are detail-oriented, possess good decision-making and critical thinking skills and are able to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. You must be willing to work after hours and on weekends as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is advanced professional work supervising and directing the work of child protective investigators and support staff. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position (s) allocated to this class is to spend the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees to effectively recommend such actions.

  • Supervise investigations regarding allegations of child abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for staff who collect information through interviews with the children, parents, relatives, neighbors, and other parties associated with the case;

  • Supervise, plan and direct workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization of subordinate staff in the delivery of protecting children, working with families and conducting investigations of alleged abused, abandoned, neglected or exploited children;

  • Develops performance standards and job duty expectations with investigators, reviews standards and plans for continuous improvement. Communicates investigators' compliance with these expectations on a regular basis and provides coaching by acknowledging outstanding performance and providing suggestions on areas for improvement;

  • Promotes career development of investigators by ensuring each individual receives the proper training and leads cross-training efforts on differential investigative skills;

  • Reviews casework, assessments and safety plans with investigators, and provides consultation and direction to assure appropriateness, clarity, quality, thoroughness and proper documentation;

  • Use management tools in appropriate information system(s) on an ongoing basis to monitor open cases and manage workflow for steady progress to ensure the timeline for actions to be taken are met and to prevent backlog;

  • Ensures that CPI operations are within legislative authority and in compliance with required federal, state rules and regulations;

  • Identifies improvements and implements adjustments needed to ensure program effectiveness and efficiency;

  • Facilitates and participates in the hiring, promoting, demoting, discipline and/or dismissal of employees;

  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data regarding child protective investigations;

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with organizations and other agenices involved with child protective investigations such as community based providers, Children's Legal Services, law enforcement, medical personnel, schools, and other community/agency resources;

  • Ensures effective communication with deaf or hard-of hearing Customers or companions in accordance with the ADA and/or Section 504 and shall manage service records and report this data and any resources and/or training needs to their designated program point of contact.

The position will perform all job tasks in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and requirements applicable to state and federal laws or procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● A bachelor's degree (preferred bachelor's or master's degree in social work from a college or university social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education)

● 2+ years experience in child welfare; preferred in child abuse investigations

● Current/Active Child Welfare Certification credentials from the Florida Certification Board

● Must be trained and practicing Florida's Safety Practice method

Special note:

  • The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete the PROFICIENCY PROCESS FOR CHILD PROTECTION INVESTIGATIONS SUPERVISORS.

  • This process allows for the ongoing development of skill in the area of coaching, supervision, and consulting as it pertains to Florida's Practice Model.

  • This process establishes a formalized proficiency process for the Department of Children & Families and applies it to staff who are responsible for conducting case consultations and for direct supervision of investigators.

  • The proficiency process ensures each CPIS has the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for case analysis and consultation.
