Job Description and Duties

Join our team at the Nutrition Services Division (NSD), to provide healthy food to school children throughout the State of California!

The NSD administers state and federal food programs such as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SPB) and orders, stores, and distributes U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foods and Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetables to recipient agencies.

The Child Nutrition Supervisor (CNS) ll manages Field Services Unit (FSU) 1 in the Field Services Administration (FSA). It consists of three regions in California: Region 2-Central, Region 4-Northern, and Region 5-Bay, which are staff by three CNS ls, twenty three Child Nutrition Consultants, one Child Nutrition Assistant, and one Associate Governmental Program Analyst. The regional supervisors and staff are responsible for conducting federally and state required Child Nutrition Program (CNP) administrative reviews (AR) throughout California to ensure that CNP Operators are in compliance with federal and state rules and regulations. The FSU 1 staff also provide technical assistance about the CNPs program operators, information and guidance on how to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, information about what to expect from pending ARs, and AR resolution.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing direction and guidance to the regional supervisors and staff so they can productively administer the CNPs including the NSLP, SBP, Special Milk Program, and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in their regions

  • Coordinating with the CNS ll of FSU 2 and the FSA Section CNS ll to evaluate the performance of staff and, when appropriate, take or recommend action with respect to their work performance.

  • Assisting the FSA SSM lll and FSU 2 CNS ll to formulate and implement of strategies of procedures, carrying out policies, programs, and priorities of the FSA including monitoring and implementing strategic goals within assigned functional areas.

A hybrid telework schedule includes a minimum of two days reporting to the office in-person. The incumbent may choose to report to the office location of Sacramento, Fresno, or Chico.
