CHILD NUTRITION MANAGER

General Statement of Job

Manager's job functions include menu planning, procurement, food production, sanitation, service, recordkeeping, marketing, personnel management, and professional development.

Required qualifications

  • High school graduate, with 3 to 5 years of experience in food preparation, preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Plans, implements and supervises operation of an assigned school cafeteria for preparation and service of meals and other foods.

  • Reviews Production Records for entire week before food/supply delivery to ensure adequate groceries/supplies are available to follow published menus.

  • Follows and ensures adherence to established school, local, state and federal regulations and requirements as well as sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines.

  • Ensures administration of federal meal programs in accordance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

  • Serves meals on time; provides quick, pleasant service and provides a pleasant eating environment.

  • Determines amount of food necessary for preparation of daily meals;

  • Determines and maintains proper inventories of necessary food supplies and materials, and prepares requisitions and/or orders.

  • Checks deliveries to ensure compliance with orders, and contacts appropriate persons to resolve discrepancies, as necessary.

  • Ensues that staff follows standardized recipes and proper food production procedures.

  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of food production and storage areas.

  • Conducts monthly physical inventory of food and supplies.

  • Completes and submits correct required reports, activity records, documentation, forms and surveys.

  • Supervise the maintenance, operation and cleaning of equipment and facility.

  • Monitors Health and Fire Department inspections of cafeteria and related facilities, implementing procedures to resolve identified problems or deficiencies, as necessary.

  • Inputs data and generates various daily, weekly land monthly computer reports, such as cash and other financial reports, purchase orders, inventories, free and reduced rosters and meal participation.

  • Monitors and collects charge balances.

  • Administers federal Free and reduced Price Meal Program in accordance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

  • Assigns, directs, and supervises cafeteria staff, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures and standards.

  • Assists and advises subordinates, resolving problems as non-routine situations arise.

  • Monitors job performance and provides fair, timely feedback regarding performance strengths and weaknesses.

  • Attend training sessions, district departmental meetings and in-services.

  • Performs other related work as required.

Essential knowledge and abilities

  • Multi-task various work assignments in a time efficient manner.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of food service administration, team building and customer service.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, techniques and practices of sanitation, food preparation and food storage.

  • General knowledge of the principles of bookkeeping and accounting of funds.

  • Some knowledge of the maintenance needs of large kitchen equipment.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Skilled in staff motivation and leading staff to provide quality meals and friendly service appropriate to a public school environment.

  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form with people using positive interpersonal skills and interact positively with children, other school personnel and the public.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use initiative when responding to emergencies, resolving problems and making improvements in the cafeteria operation.

  • Must be able to stand for six continuous hours and stoop, squat, kneel and/or bend.

  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
