PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To develop management skills required to serve safe, nutritious, appealing meals to students and staff in an atmosphere of friendliness, cleanliness and efficiency. Assist the Child Nutrition Manager with all aspects of the campus food service operation.
Work closely and cooperatively with the child nutrition manager to ensure that food production and service is in accordance with established standards, rules and regulations. Assist the child nutrition manager with training, ordering, inventory and overall operational efficiency. Be willing and able to assist other campuses when the manager is out.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
Servsafe/food handlers certification is required within 60 days of hire
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions for food preparation and safety procedu
Ability to maintain required documentation.
Positive attitude toward use of a computer and the point of sale.
Ability to supervise employees engaged in food production tasks.
Ability to maintain accurate reports of daily and monthly financial, production, inventory, and freezer/cooler logs.
Knowledge of TDA laws, rules and regulations governing service and production.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with students, teachers, principals and parents.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Experience:
Experience in K-12 child nutrition preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Comply with applicable child nutrition guidelines and policies.
Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.
Provide quality food service to students with emphasis on nutritional value, flavor and acceptability.
Assist in preparation of orders for supplies and equipment according to the outlined
Assist in balancing labor and reducing daily waste.
Assist in assuming responsibility for records of cash, food, supplies and equipment.
Report malfunctioning equipment and ensure proper usage.
Assist in training employees and new hires.
Assist in entering information on production records and other worksheets.
Assist in supervision of employees and new hires.
Assist in preparation and posting of work schedules.
Assist with monitoring time sheets and records for accuracy.
Work special events and during emergencies as needed.
Foster an attitude of customer satisfaction among staff.
Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Report any conditions that are not correctable by you to the supervisor immediately.
Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.
Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.
Maintain food safety, quality and presentation.
Maintain a safe, sanitary and hazard free working environment.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Other duties assigned by upper management.
OTHER INFORMATION
EQUIPMENT USED:
Large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, vegetable cutters, sharp cutting tool, ovens, dishwashers, food/utility carts and ladders.

The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first-time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
