ABOUT THE JOB: This is a part-time position working an alternating schedule Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 8:30a-5:00p.

Creates a developmental plan for the facilitation of therapeutic interventions.

Responsible for helping patients and patient families cope with the stress of hospitalization by assessing patient psychosocial and developmental needs during hospitalization.

Ensure the coordination and initiation involvement of all patients and patient's families in appropriate community activities.

SOME HIGHLIGHTED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates a developmental plan for the facilitation of therapeutic interventions.

  • Responsible for helping patients and patient families cope with the stress of hospitalization by assessing patient psychosocial and developmental needs during hospitalization.

  • Ensure the coordination and initiation involvement of all patients and patient's families in appropriate community activities.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.

  • Document patient's developmental needs, coping and plan to facilitate mastery in patient medical records and recognize.

  • Prepare siblings for visitation and anticipated events related to treatment and provide sibling support, and provide.

EXPERIENCE:

Child Life Specialist Internship required

EDUCATION:

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Licenses and Certification:

  • Child Life Specialist Professional

Child Life Specialist Job Summary: Provides for the developmental needs of hospitalized children age 0-21 to include advocating for psychosocial, emotional, physical and cognitive needs. Decreases the anxiety and/or trauma with illness and hospitalization through interventions, which promote play, learning, mastery, self-expression, and peer interaction. Educates staff and the community concerning the developmental needs of hospitalized children, reactions of children to illness and hospitalization, and family centered care.
